Kalaburagi, Aug 19: Unprecedented floods following heavy inflows into Krishna River from upper riparian State of Maharashtra and deluge due to unprecedented rains elsewhere in Karnataka during the last three weeks wrecked havoc in at least 16 districts in Karnataka, but the districts under parched Hyderabad-Karnataka region remains drought-affected and agricultural operations crippled, sources said.
After overflowing Krishna and Bhima river in this region wrecked the agricultural fields along the river course, the water situation remains grim in vast spaces of Hyderabad-Karnataka districts like Kalburagi and Bidar and other areas. But most of the areas in this backward region remain drought-affected and sowing operations remain very low.
According to water resource Department data available here, out of 11 Reservoirs in the two districts, only Sonna barrage of Bhima Lift Irrigation project received sufficient water as huge amount of water was discharged from Maharashtra's two dams Ujani and Veer reservoir. But others remaining 10 small and medium reservoirs did not get good inflow so far.
