Former accused in Mangaluru journalist molestation case kills self

Mangaluru, Sep 20: A 23-year-old man ended his life by throwing himself before a moving train near Marnamikatte in the city on Tuesday.

jacksondcunha1The deceased has been identified as Victor Jackson D'Cunha, son of Valerian and Cecelia D'Cunha from Naguri in the city. He was a trainee in the fire and safety department at Fr Muller's Hospital.

The youth was last seen at his workplace at around 6 a.m. today. His dead body was found around 10 a.m. on the railway tracks between Mangaluru Central and Junction stations.

Railway police have registered a case and investigations are on. The dead body was handed over to the family after post mortem.

Victor Jackson had been arrested by Mangaluru East Police in December 2013 for allegedly molesting a female journalist in the city. However, after a prolonged hearing a local court had acquitted him due to lack of evidence.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: PVR Cinemas on Friday launched its five-screen multiplex in here, augmenting its presence in Karnataka across 15 properties to 103 screens and to 46 properties and 286 screens in southern India.

With this opening, PVR consolidates its growth momentum in the current financial year 2019-20, so far opening 83 screens in the year and bringing its portfolio to 841 screens at 176 properties in 71 cities.

"We feel proud to cross the 100 screens milestone in the state of Karnataka at the very beginning of the year," said Joint Managing Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli.

"Southern India has a strong market with significant growth potential. In Bengaluru, we have introduced some of our best formats and offerings owing to the nature of preferences by our customers," he said in a statement.

Pramod Arora, Chief Growth and Strategy Officer at PVR Ltd, said the company will continue to enhance the consumer experience through innovation and set new benchmarks in the Indian multiplex industry.

PVR is the largest and the most premium film exhibition company in India, serving over 100 million patrons annually.

Bengaluru, Feb 25: Opteamix LLC (Opteamix), a digital technology firm, announced today that they have been awarded as a 'Dream Company to Work For' by the World HRD Congress.

Mangaluru, May 18: The coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today reported two more covid-19 positive cases. One is a 30-year-old man and the other is a 55-year-old woman.

The man, a resident of Karopady in Bantwal, had returned from Raigad in Maharashtra and is under quarantine.

The woman, a resident of Yeyyadi, had fever and hence visited Wenlock hospital for test. She was diagnosed to have Severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) symptoms and later tested positive. She has been shifted to ICU. 

With this the total number of covid-19 positive cases in the district rose to 54. Among them 48 are from Dakshina Kannada and six patients are from other districts.
