Former Ranji player commits suicide in UP

Gorakhpur, Sep 5: A senior officer of the North Eastern Railway (NER) and former Ranji cricketer allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his official bungalow in the Shahpur area here, police said Wednesday.

Tarun Shukla (56), who was posted as the deputy chief commercial manager, was found dead in the drawing room of his residence on Tuesday afternoon with a revolver lying near him, they said.

A two-page suicide note, in which he has thanked everyone and also appealed for not investigating the matter, was recovered from the spot.

Police have found that the handwriting in the suicide note matches with that of Shukla and post-mortem report is awaited.

Circle Officer Pravin Singh said Shukla was a Ranji Trophy cricketer.

Shukla, a native of Bareilly district, had been the captain of NE railway cricket team for 10 years and played in the Ranji Trophy from 1980 to 82.

In the first page of the note written in green ink, Shukla thanked his colleagues, friends, fellow players and relatives, while on the second page he has written with red ink that he is committing suicide due to personal reasons and appealed for not asking questions from anyone and doing any kind of probe in this regard.

He is survived by two daughters, a son and wife.

"Prima facie it is a case of suicide. The handwriting of suicide note is matching with his hand writing however his post-mortem report is awaited," Gorakhpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said.

Mandya, Jun 14: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two children were drowned in a pond at Beeranahalli village in Nagamangala taluk of this district on Sunday.

Police said that the deceased have been identified as Geeta (40), and her two children Savita(19) and Soumya(14).

Savaitha is a degree student while Soumya was studying in 9th standard. The trio drowned in a pond where they had gone to wash their cows. The locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them but could not save.

Nagpur, Apr 5: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Imambada area in Nagpur on Saturday due to financial distress, police said.

Nikhil Gavhane, who worked in a grocery shop, hanged himself as he had taken money from a person and was stressed over repayment, an official said.

"He was depressed since a week," the Imambada police station official said.

Meerut: The licence of a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has been suspended after a video showing its staff member providing fake Covid-19 report had gone viral.

"A video had gone viral in Meerut. We have registered a case in this regard. We have suspended the licence of the nursing home. Today, we have sealed it also. Strict action will be taken against anybody who will do something like this in this time of crisis,” said Anil Dhingra, District Magistrate, Meerut.

In the video, the person can be heard saying that they provide Covid-19 negative report for Rs 2,500, Dhingra stated.

Meerut CMO Rajkumar said, “In the video, a man from the hospital can be heard saying that he can arrange COVID-19 negative report and the person can get operation or other things done. We have identified the man. We have suspended the licence of the hospital and an FIR has been registered.”
