Four detained in BJP leader Vijay Pandit murder case

Greater Noida, Jun 8: Four persons were on Sunday detained for questioning in connection with the murder of BJP leader and Dadri Nagar Panchayat Chairman Geeta Pandit’s husband Vijay Pandit in Dadri area here even as police clamped prohibitory orders in Gautam Budh Nagar district.

Four detainedPandit was shot dead by four assailants last night following which his supporters torched 16 vehicles near Dadri police station and pelted stones at a police team. Police had to resort to firing in the air to control the mob. The clashes between the two sides continued till late last night.

BJP workers blocked traffic on the national highway in Dadri demanding arrest of the killers.

“PAC has been deployed in the area.The affected area has been cordoned off. Section 144 has been clamped. Anti-social elements will not be allowed to disturb law and order. Police have detained some persons and killers would be arrested soon,” District Magistrate A V.Rajamouli said.

“We have detained four persons for questioning.The deceased family had given names of some suspects. Manhunt has been launched to nab them,” police said.

BJP MP Mahesh Sharma has demanded the arrest of the killers and alleged there was jungle raj in the city as criminals were striking at will while the police failed to check rising crime. The killing of the BJP leader has “exposed” the law and order situation, he charged.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi charged, “Nothing like government can be seen in UP. Law and order situation has completely been destroyed and the UP government is responding in a very casual way towards it”.

Pandit had led the election campaign for the BJP candidate in recent elections.

Vijay’s brother Mukesh alleged that, “He was getting threat calls about which written complaints were lodged in

police station. But police took no action”.

Vijay’s brother runs a grocery shop on G T Road where shopkeepers downed the shutters of their business establishments and blocked the traffic in protest.

Condemning the murder, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said, “Incident is unfortunate. Those responsible must be punished.

“UP government has failed to maintain law and order in the state. Condition is very bad. People are losing faith. UP government must take steps immediately,” he alleged.

New Delhi, Jun 5: Around 20 staff members of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have tested positive for COVID-19, all of them are asymptomatic and are doing well, said DMRC officials.

In a statement, the DMRC said, "Along with the rest of the country, DMRC is also fighting the battle against COVID-19. Delhi Metro's employees have shown exemplary resilience in reporting back to their duties to keep the Metro system in all readiness for the eventual resumption of services."

"Some employees, scattered across the NCR have unfortunately been infected by the virus as well. They are all safe and recovering gradually. However, in this hour of crisis as well, the spirit of Delhi Metro continues to be high," the DMRC stated.

DMRC Managing Director, Dr Mangu Singh, in a message today asked all employees to adhere to social distancing norms and wished those afflicted with the virus a speedy recovery.

"This indomitable spirit will surely help the Delhi Metro, whenever we resume our services in the days ahead," said DMRC.

New Delhi, Jun 23: With an increase of 14,933 new cases and 312 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count reached 4,40,215 on Tuesday.

According to the latest update by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), 14,011 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far in the country.

The rise in confirmed cases today is lower than the highest spike of 15 thousand plus cases registered on Sunday.

The count includes 1,78,014 active cases, and 2,48,190 cured/discharged/migrated patients.

Maharashtra with 1,35,796 confirmed cases remains the worst-affected by the infection so far in the country. The state's count includes 61,807 active, 67,706 cured, discharged patients while 6,283 deaths have been reported due to the infection so far.

Meanwhile, the national capital's confirmed coronavirus cases reached 62,655.

2,233 deaths have been reported in Delhi due to the infection so far.

Tamil Nadu has reported 62,087 cases so far with toll increased to 794.

Bhopal, May 28: A Bhopal-based high net worth individual hired a 180-seater A320 plane of a private carrier to ferry four family members to New Delhi, in a bid to avoid crowd at the airport and in flight amid the COVID-19 outbreak, officials said on Thursday.

The person, who is a liquor baron, chartered the aircraft to send to Delhi his daughter, her two children and their maid, who were stuck in Bhopal since the last two months due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, sources said.

The plane arrived here from Delhi on Monday with crew only and flew back with just four passengers for whom it was specially hired, they said.

"The A320 180-seater plane arrived here on May 25 to carry four members of a family, probably due to the coronavirus scare. It was chartered by someone and there was no medical emergency, an airline official said, refusing to divulge any further details.

Bhopals Rajabhoj Airport Director Anil Vikram could not be contacted for comments.

According to aviation experts, the cost of hiring an Airbus-320 is about Rs 20 lakh.

Domestic commercial flight services resumed from Monday, after a nearly two-month break due to the coronavirus-enforced lockdown.
