Gang-rape survivor attacked with acid in Yogi-ruled UP

Lucknow, Jul 2: A gang-rape and acid attack survivor has once again been attacked with acid in Aliganj locality here, police said on Sunday.acid

This is the fifth attack on the woman.

The latest incident took place on Saturday night near a hostel where she resides. She was rushed to a hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.

She has sustained burn injuries on her face and neck, police said, adding that no FIR has been registered yet and they are awaiting a complaint.

A probe is on in the matter, they said.

Earlier on March 23, the woman was allegedly forced to drink acid by two men on board a train near here.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath had visited her at a hospital and announced Rs 1 lakh assistance for the 45-year-old woman.

The incident had came to light when the woman had got off the Allahabad-Lucknow Ganga Gomti Express at Charbagh Station here and gave a written complaint to the government railway police. She wrote the complaint as she could not speak.

As per the complaint, two persons had forced her to drink acid.

Earlier, two men had allegedly raped and attacked her with acid over a property dispute in her home at Unchahar in 2009, 100 kilometres from Lucknow.

The woman works with Sheroes Hangout Cafe, an outlet run by acid attack survivors in Lucknow.

In 2012, the woman was attacked with a knife, and in 2013 she was attacked with acid, police sources said.

Nagpur, Apr 5: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Imambada area in Nagpur on Saturday due to financial distress, police said.

Nikhil Gavhane, who worked in a grocery shop, hanged himself as he had taken money from a person and was stressed over repayment, an official said.

"He was depressed since a week," the Imambada police station official said.

Yavatmal, May 19: Four migrant workers were killed and 15 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Yavatmal on Tuesday morning.

The bus was travelling from Solapur to Jharkhand. More details are currently awaited.

Lucknow, May 1: Six members of a family were allegedly hacked to death by another family member over a property dispute in Gudauli village in the Banthra area on the outskirts of the city on Thursday, police said.

The accused, Ajay Singh (26), went to the local police station after committing the crime and surrendered, they added.

Singh allegedly had a heated argument with the family members over a property and attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, the police said.

The accused allegedly killed his mother, father, elder brother, his wife and two children -- a son and a daughter -- they added.

The victims were identified as Amar (60), Ramsakhi (55), Arun (40), Ramdulari (35), Saurabh (7) and Sarika (2).

When asked, Commissioner of Police Sujeet Pandey said six members of a family were killed and the accused surrendered before the police.
