Gautam Gulati winner of 'Bigg Boss Halla Bol'

February 1, 2015

Mumbai, Feb 1: TV actor Gautam Gulati was tonight crowned the winner of the eighth season of reality TV show 'Bigg Boss- Halla Bol' as he beat four other contestants in the grand finale after his stay in the house for 132 days.

Winner of Bigg Boss

The show, initially hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, was extended for a month with director Farah Khan taking over the duties of the host. Farah handed the trophy and Rs 50 lakh as prize money to Gautam.

"I cannot believe that I have won. It has been an exceptional journey with plenty of ups and downs but it is an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

"I am greatly indebted to my family, friends and fans who have supported me throughout my journey on Bigg Boss, and cannot thank them enough. Emerging victorious is like a dream come true and I am now ready for the next phase of my career," Gautam said after his win.

The 27-year-old actor beat Karishma Tanna, Pritam Singh, Ali Quli Mirza and Dimpy to become the winner of the longest season of the controversial reality show that has celebrities holed up inside a house with cameras watching their every move.

Ali and Dimpy became the first two champions to be evicted on the finale, leaving behind Gautam, Karishma and Pritam in the race.

"It is an achievement that I came this far. Being a non-celebrity, it is a big thing. I think I took the right decision to quit the show with Rs 25 lakh," Pritam told PTI after coming out of the house.

The top three finalists were then offered an amount of Rs 25 lakh and an option to quit the game. RJ Pritam accepted the offer and exited the show.

Finally Gautam was declared as the title-holder, with Karishma finishing as the runner-up. Interestingly, both started out as enemies on the show, when it began but developed a cordial relationship in the last few weeks.

"I am happy that I have finished as the runner-up but at the same time I am feeling bad that I did not win. The show's win mattered to me. But I am happy for Gautam," Karishma said.

Dimpy was the first to get evicted with Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha taking her out of the house after grilling all the finalists. Ali, who became second to lose in the race, had an uncomfortable exit as he was escorted out by Ajaz Khan.

Ajaz, a previous 'Bigg Boss' contestant, had entered this season as a challenger, along with four others - Rahul Mahajan, Sambhavna Seth, Mahek Chahal and Sana Khan. But he was evicted in the second week after he allegedly hit Ali during a fight.

The finale was attended by some of the ex-contestants of the season - Praneet Bhatt, Puneet Issar, Sonali Raut, Diandra Soares, Mahek, Sana, Sambhavna, Upen Patel and Rahul.

Gautam, who is known for his role in TV show 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', entered the show as an underdog. He was sidelined by the house mates after he abused Karishma in a task, where the actress put chili paste on his face.

Karishma blew up the matter and while she gained sympathy in the house, Gautam, who was a new face for the audience, ended up earning fans outside with his devil-may-care attitude. He later became a member of the 'P3G' group that included Gautam, Puneet, Praneet and Pritam.

Karishma and her friends-- Diandra, Upen, Sushant Digvikar and Arya Babbar-- were called the 'Bedroom Gang'. The 'P3G' group broke up with wild card entry of Dimpy but Puneet and Gautam remained close.

Gautam's romance with Diandra gained him some notoriety, while Karishma too found love in Upen, who re-entered the show to confess his feelings for her.

The 31-year-old actress, who had a boyfriend outside the house, accepted Upen's proposal, thus breaking up with her ex.

The show saw a performance by Malaika Arora Khan inside the Bigg Boss house. Adding to all the entertainment was Khatron Ke Khiladi's stunt architect Rohit Shetty who came crashing into Bigg Boss house through a glass wall while taking the finalists back to the outside world.

Ex-contestants from the show Upen, Puneet, Diandra, Sonali Raut, Praneet Bhatt and the challengers Ajaz Khan, Rahul Mahajan, Sambhavna Seth, Mahek Chahal and Sana Khan cheered on the finalists.

Mumbai, Jan 26: Filmmakers Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and actor Kangana Ranaut are among the six cinema personalities to be awarded the Padma Shri, officials said on Saturday.

Singers Suresh Wadkar and Adnan Sami as well as veteran TV actor Sarita Joshi have also been conferred with the fourth highest civilian honour of the country.

Karan and Ekta said they were humbled to receive the honour.

"Overwhelmed by so many emotions right now. Humbled, elated and also thankful for the opportunity to live my dream everyday, to create and to entertain. I know my father would be proud and I wish he was here to share this moment with me," he said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Son of veteran Bollywood producer late Yash Johar, Karan Johar started his career as a director in Hindi cinema with the 1998 hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

The 47-year-old, who runs Dharma Productions, went on to direct several commercial blockbusters in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), My Name Is Khan (2010), Student of the Year (2012) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil among others.

Karan has also produced several critically-acclaimed films -- Wake Up Sid, Agneepath, Hasee Toh Phasee, Kapoors & Sons and Raazi.

Ekta, who started her showbiz journey with soap operas, most notably Kyunki Saas Bhi Bahu Thi, is the daughter of veteran actor Jeetendra.

Ekta, 44, has produced films such as Love Sex Aur Dhoka, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, The Dirty Picture, Udta Punjab and Veere Di Wedding.

"My foray into the industry started when I was just 17. I constantly heard I was 'too young', 'too raw' and it was 'too soon' to make things happen. Through the years I've realised it's never 'too soon' to live out your dreams and being 'too young' is probably the best thing," she said.

"Today, as l'm conferred with the 4th highest civilian honour- Padma Shri', I'm humbled. I hope to continue breaking boundaries, to continue giving young talent a chance and to strive to give back to the country for all the love that's come my way.

The timing couldn't have been more perfect, as this news arrives 2 days before my son's first birthday. Grateful & Thankful!" she added.

Kangana, a three-time National Award Winner, is the only Bollywood actor to receive the Padma Shri this year.

The 32-year-old, who made her debut in movies in 2006 with Gangster, is regarded as one of the most successful female artistes of this generation.

After a series of films with Mahesh Bhatt's banner, she found success with Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion, for which she won her first National Film Award in 2009.

She went on to win two back-to-back National Film Awards for her performances in Queen (2014) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). Kangana's latest release is Panga.

Wadkar, 64, a veteran in the music industry, started his career as a playback singer in 1978 with song Seene mein jalan for Gaman. He has lent his voice to memorable tracks like Aye zindagi gale lagaa le, Aur is dil mein, Pardesi pardesi, Sapne mein, Raat ke dhai baje and Jag Ja.

In his over four-decade-long career, Wadkar has collaborated with celebrated composers RD Burman, Shiv-Hari, Ilayaraja, Khayyam, AR Rahman, Bappi Lahiri, Vishal Bhardwaj and Hridayanath Mangeshkar.

Sami, 48, now an Indian-citizen, made a mark for himself in country's indie-pop scene with single Kabhi toh nazar milao, for which he collaborated with veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle.

"The greatest moment for any Artiste is to be appreciated & recognised by his/her government. I am overwhelmed with infinite gratitude for being honoured with the 'Padma Shri' by the Government of India. It has been a 34 years musical journey.. 'Bohot Shukriya'!!" Sami tweeted.

He released various albums in the early 2000s and also served as music composer for films Lucky: No Time for Love (2005), Dhamaal (2007) and Shaurya (2008).

Sami, born in London to a Pakistani Air force veteran, applied for Indian citizenship in 2015 and became a citizen of the country in January 2016.

Joshi, a household name and a popular theatre personality, started her acting career as a child artiste and made her TV debut in 1980s with Titliyan.

Mumbai, Jul 27: Reel life villain Sonu Sood turned real life hero once again, this time by gifting a tractor on Sunday to a farmer in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh to help him till the land. The actor came up with the gift after coming through a video clip on Twitter wherein a tomato farmer in Madanapalle in Chittoor district was seen ploughing the land with his two daughters carrying the yoke on their shoulders.

In his instant reaction, Sood promised a pair of ox to the farmer, but later said the family deserved a tractor. "So sending you one. By evening a tractor will be ploughing your fields. Stay blessed," Sood, who acted as a villain in numerous Telugu films, said in a tweet.

True to his word, a new tractor was delivered to the elated farmer Nageswara Rao at his Mahalrajupalle village by Sunday night. Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who belongs to Chittoor district, hailed the actor's gesture.

"Spoke with @sonusood ji and applauded him for his inspiring effort to send a tractor to Nageswara Rao's family in Chittoor district. Moved by the plight of the family, I have decided to take care of the education of the two daughters and help them pursue their dreams," Naidu said in a tweet.

Rao's elder daughter completed her Intermediate while the second one passed Class 10. Rao used to run a tea stall in Madanapalle before coronavirus left him out of business. He returned to his native Mahalrajupalle village to take up agriculture once again.

Given his penury, he could not hire either a pair of bulls or a tractor to till the land, when his daughters volunteered to help him on the chores. Their plight went viral on social media following which the actor stepped in with help.

Washington, Mar 23: Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, US media reported Sunday.

Harvey Weinstein, 68, is in prison in northern New York state after being sentenced to 23 years in jail for rape and sexual assault.

The fallen film producer's diagnosis was first reported Sunday evening by local paper the Niagara Gazette.

Harvey Weinstein's spokespeople have declined to comment to US media on the subject.

The New York state Department of Corrections did not respond when contacted by AFP for confirmation of the reports.

Harvey Weinstein was transferred Wednesday to a prison near Buffalo, 350 miles (560 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

Prior to his transfer, he stayed at Rikers Island prison and a Manhattan hospital, where he was treated for chest pains.

Crowded US prisons have the potential to become hotbeds for coronavirus infections. Last week, guards at Rikers and New York's Sing Sing prison tested positive for the virus, local media reported.

As of Sunday, the virus has killed 417 people in the US out of more than 33,000 cases, according to a tracker managed by Johns Hopkins University.

Harvey Weinstein was convicted in February of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree, while being cleared of predatory sexual assault charges.

He was convicted of raping ex-actress Jessica Mann in 2013 and of forcibly performing oral sex on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006.

Nearly 90 women, including Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, have leveled sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein, the Oscar-winning producer of "Shakespeare in Love" and numerous other critical and box office hits.
