Grand Mufti urges people to donate for Syrians

February 24, 2014
Grand_MuftiRiyadh, Feb 24: Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti and President of Council of Senior Scholars and General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh has appealed to citizens and residents, especially the wealthy to contribute generously to the Saudi National Campaign to Support Brothers in Syria
While lauding Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque King Abdullah’s generous support, Al-Sheikh called on all Saudis to deliver their donations through the campaign, the sole agency to receive donations and aid to our brothers in Syria.
He commended the role being played by the Saudi National Campaign to support the Syrian people, particularly its general supervisor, Minister of Interior Prince Muhammad Bin Naif for his efforts for the relief of the Syrian people, support for their cause and alleviation of their sufferings.

Meanwhile, at least 14 people were killed and 70 wounded in a car bombing on Sunday near a field hospital in a Syrian town on the border with Turkey that serves as a main supply line for rebels fighting President Bashar Al-Assad, activists said.
The attack shattered relative calm in a region of far northern Syria that has been a safe haven for thousands of refugees fleeing the three-year civil war.
The bomb exploded in the town of Atmeh, situated amid olive groves opposite the Turkish village of Bukulmez in the province of Hatay. The target was a hospital owned by Ghassan Abboud, a pro-opposition businessman who owns Orient Television.
Orient Television, based in Dubai and broadcasting into Syria, has been vehement in its criticism of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an Al-Qaeda splinter group that has seized several strategic areas along the border and choked supply lines to more moderate rebel groups in the interior.
A doctor at a state hospital in Reyhanli across the border in Turkey, a strong backer of the Syrian rebels, said several wounded Syrians were brought there, some in critical condition. “The façade of the hospital
was blown off. Most of the casualties were transported to Bab al-Hawa (crossing) and to another hospital in Atmeh. Some of the worst cases reached Turkey,” said witness Abdallah Saleh.
“This barbaric attack took place against a hospital that treats the wounded from the bombs of death the regime is using on liberated areas. Orient Foundation accuses the Assad regime of being behind the attack,” an Orient statement said.

Dubai, May 5: Saudi Arabian prosecutors have ordered the arrest of a Saudi citizen for insulting an Asian expatriate and abusing him for not embracing Islam.

A video went viral online showing the expat, apparently with little knowledge of the Arabic language, being insulated by an Arabic-speaking man who does not appear in the clip, for having not embraced Islam and for not fasting.

A monitoring centre affiliated with the public prosecution examined the video the content of which “shows the citizen’s use of abusive words against the Asian resident on the pretext of inviting him to Islam,” the prosecution source said.

“The public prosecution closely follows up whatever infringes rights of citizens and residents including harm to their dignity and legal rights regardless of pretexts of such infringement,” the source added.

Dubai, July 13: An explosion caused by a gas leak damaged a restaurant, and nearby shops at a residential building in Dubai on Monday morning.

According to Brigadier Abdul Haleem Al Hashemi, Deputy Director of Al Qusais Police Station, the incident took place at 4am when the restaurant was closed.

No injuries were reported, but two nearby shops, a pharmacy, a salon and three cars were severely damaged.

"Dubai Police patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene and worked with Dubai Civil Defense to evacuate residents of the two-storey building as a precautionary measure," Brig Al Hashimi explained.

Preliminary investigations showed that the blast was caused by a gas leak, the officer said. The Crime Scene Department of the General Department of Forensics and Criminology in Dubai is studying the evidence collected from the site and will be preparing the final report on the accident.

Brig Al Hashimi urged restaurant owners to ensure that all safety and security systems at their outlets are in good condition. Regular maintenance checks should also be conducted on all pipes and gas regulators, especially during the summer season.
