Great time to be a woman in Indian cinema: Sonakshi

Mumbai, Aug 4: Actress Sonakshi Sinha says that it is a great time to be a women in Indian cinema as great characters are being written for them while audience too accepted them.

sonakshi“I think it is about time that they did and there are some great characters being written out for women in today’s films and I am really happy for that.” Sonakshi said at the launch of her song ‘Rajj Rajj Ke’ from her film ‘Akira’, which she has sung herself.

“And the audiences have become so much more accepting of what they are watching on screen, so I think it is a great time to be a woman in Indian cinema,” Sonakshi added further.

Recently, actresses like Sonam Kapoor in ‘Neerja’, Priyanka Chopra in ‘Mary Kom’, Kangana Ranaut in ‘Queena’, Anushka Sharma in ‘NH 10’, Vidya Balan in ‘Kahaani’ have carried films on their shoulders, while Alia Bhatt in ‘Highway’, Deepika Padukone in ‘Pikua’ among others have had meaty characters.

When asked why she decided to do a women-centric film, Sonakshi said, “When I do other films, you all say why you do not do women-centric films, when I do women-centric, you say why women-centric film. So now what to do?”

Sonakshi will be seen in some intense action sequences in ‘Akira’. About her preparation for it, she said, “It’s actually been the most challenging, most physically demanding film I have ever been a part of. I had to work very hard, it was very gruelling, very hard training I had to go through in mixed martial arts. I had to work on myself so that it looks convincing.

‘Akira’, directed by A. R. Murugadoss, also stars Anurag Kashyap and Konkona Sensharma.

Mumbai, Jul 28: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he was left in tears as his daughter-in-law, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan were discharged from hospital after testing negative for coronavirus.

Aishwarya and her eight-year-old daughter, who were shifted to the isolation ward of Nanavati Hospital on July 17, were discharged on Monday.

Amitabh, 77, and his actor-son Abhishek are still in hospital after they were admitted on July 11.

In a post on official blog, the Bollywood veteran said that he became emotional when Aaradhya told him that he would be "back home soon".

"They go home, the little one and Bahurani... and the tears flow out... the little one embraces and tells me not to cry... 'You’ll be home soon', she assures... I must believe her," he said.

On Monday, Abhishek had said that he and his father were still under the care of medical staff at the Nanavati Hospital's isolation ward.

"My father and I remain in hospital under the care of the medical staff. Thank you all for your continued prayers and good wishes. Indebted forever," the 44-year-old actor tweeted.

Both Amitabh and Abhishek have been sharing their health updates with fans on various social media platforms.

Last week, Amitabh had dismissed reports that he had finally tested negative for coronavirus, calling the piece of news "an incorrigible lie".

Mumbai's Covid-19 tally rose to 1,10,129 on Monday with addition of 1,033 new cases.

Chennai, Feb 10: The Income Tax Department on Monday summoned Tamil actor Vijay over charges of tax evasion and his alleged links with financier Anbu Chezhiyan.

The development comes after the IT Department on Friday carried out a raid at the actor's residence in Panaiyur area in Chennai.

IT sleuths held searches in connection with the success of a recent film which was a Box Office hit, collecting around Rs 300 crore.

As per sources, the IT Department on Thursday recovered Rs 65 crores from the residence of Vijay's alleged financer in Chennai during raids which were carried out in the connection with the tax evasion case linked to AGS Cinemas.

New Delhi, May 20: Singer Justin Bieber on Wednesday thanked his Indian fans for showering love on his newly-launched song 'Stuck With U'.

The 26-year-old singer shared a video on Twitter, that featured many Indian music enthusiasts crooning and making their own individual creative videos with the song playing in the background.

In reaction to it, the 'Yummy' singer tweeted: "Thank You India"

Bieber and American singer Ariana Grande teamed up for the song earlier this month to help the people affected and who are in need during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The official music video was dropped on May 8. The romantic track marks the first collaboration of the duo.

The music video has cameos by the singer's partners and features many special moments shared by the couple amid lockdown.
