Phagwara, Oct 28: Harbhajan Singh and long-time girlfriend Geeta Basra exchanged wedding rings at a lavish ceremony in Jalandhar on Wednesday evening. The veteran off-spinner will formally marry Basra, a film actress, in Phagwara on Thursday.

More than 500 hundred friends and family members attended the ring ceremony. Harbhajan and Geeta will host a reception in Delhi on November 1.

Apart from his Team India teammates like Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli, Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachhan, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra are likely to attend. There is news that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may bless the couple.

The fingers of the feisty bowler, who tormented the best batsmen across the world, performed a 'different' act that was perhaps long overdue. The 35-year-old Harbhajan, who was recently part of India's ODI squad against South Africa, has 686 international wickets.

Harbhajan, often controversial for his aggressive attitude on the field, is among a rare crop of bowlers to have taken 417 wickets in 103 Tests. However, he will not be part of the first two Tests against South Africa. The first Test starts in Mohali on November 5.

Geeta Basra was born in Portsmouth, UK in March 1984. She made her Bollywood debut in 2006 in an Emraan Hashmi-starrer Dil Diya Hai. The pair did their second movie - The Train, together in 2007. Basra's career has been confined to music videos. Like Harbhajan, she has interests in film production.

Harbhajan and Basra's romance has largely been a private affair even after being seen in public many times. The wedding rituals are already attracting a lot of attention with several former India players like Parthiv Patel and RP Singh attending the mehendi, sangeet and ring exchange ceremonies.

Harbhajan and Basra have roped in celebrity fashion designer Archana Kochhar for their wedding dresses. T-shirt loving Harbhajan's brief was simple and classic.
