Home portfolio for Ramanath Rai: High command approves CM’s proposal

Bengaluru, Aug 18: Chief minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have got his entire wish list approved by the Congress high command this time. If sources are to be believed the CM has got the green signal to fill the three vacancies in the cabinet and give the home portfolio to forest minister B Ramanath Rai

The three vacancies will be filled next week with K Shadakshari, a Lingayat (MLA from Tiptur), HM Revanna (Kuruba) and RB Thimmapur (Scheduled Caste), both MLCs, taking oath as ministers. Siddaramaiah did the biggest cabinet reshuffle in June 2016, when he dropped 14 ministers and inducted 13. He filled up the only vacancy in September.

The three vacan cies follow the death of minister HS Mahadev Prasad, resignation of minister HY Meti after a video involving him was circulated, and G Parameshwara quitting after his term as KPCC president was continued. 

Rai is expected to handle home ministry, which Siddaramaiah has looking after Parameshwara quit. Rai, who is from Bantwal, is an old Congressman and was put in charge of managing law & order when RSS activist Sharath Madivala was stabbed to death in July.

Bengaluru, Mar 26: The number of COVI D-19 cases in Karnataka spiked to 55 on Thursday after four new cases were reported. 

According to official sources, a 35-year-old man, who was a resident of Nanjanagud town in Mysuru taluk and worked in a pharma unit, tested positive for coronavirus. 

He had been quarantined in his home and efforts are being made to track down as many as seven persons, who had primary contact with 
him.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: Dakshina Karnataka District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Wednesday warned of invoking Goonda Act against those who attack doctors, police or ASHA workers who are involved in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Addressing a function arranged to distribute food kits to journalists on behalf of SCDCC Bank at the Patrika Bhavan on Wednesday, the Minister said the authorities have been instructed to initiate action without any hesitation against anyone who tries to attack Corona warriors.

It has been observed across the state the incidents of attack and assault on ASHA workers, police and civic workers are increasing hence it was felt the need for severe actions against such elements , he added.

Mangaluru, July 10: Dakshina Kannada, which has emerged as one of the hotspots of covid-19 in Karnataka, has recorded at least six novel coronavirus related deaths in past 24 hours. 

According to sources, four people lost their battle with the novel coronavirus in Wenlock, the designated covid hospital. 

A 35-year-old man from Hosabettu, who was tested positive for COVID-19 recently, died at the Wenlock COVID hospital in the morning.

A 58-year-old woman from Thokkottu, a 67-year-old man from Ullal and a 65-year-old man from Falnir also passed away in the same hospital. 

Two other covid patients passed away in private hospitals. 

With this, the total number of death of covid patients in the district rose to 36.
