How many districts in Karnataka? 32, says Nalin Kumar Kateel

Yadgir, Oct 18: Bharatiya Janata Party State president Nalin Kumar Kateel faced embarrassment on Thursday as he appeared to forget that Karnataka has 30 districts and no more.

Replying to questions by reporters here, he said after taking charge as the party’s State unit president, he had toured “31 districts in the State before coming to the 32nd district which is Yadgir” for strengthening the party.

Karnataka Congress, in tweet, mocked Mr. Kateel and advised him to read “at least primary school books” to improve his knowledge.

Though there have been demands for creating new districts, Karnataka has now 30 districts. Yadgir was the 30th district to be carved out from Kalaburagi in 2010.

Mr. Kateel warned of action against MLA for Vijayapura Basanagouda Patil Yatnal if he did not reply to the show-cause notice issued to him seeking clarification over his recent remarks on the party and its leadership. Speaking to reporters before participating in a party workers’ meeting here, Mr. Kateel reiterated that every member of the BJP elected on the party ticket should act within the party’s guidelines.

He denied that there was conflict between his and Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s followers in the party. He attributed such rumours to social media.

Evacuation flights from Muscat, Doha to Mangaluru via Bengaluru on May 20, May 22

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week.

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Asked police to be alert, take preemptive measures in wake of Delhi violence: Home Minister

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Karnataka Police and intelligence have been asked to be on alert in the wake of communal violence in Delhi and take preemptive measures, state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Wednesday.

"We have been keeping a close watch on the developments after the Delhi incident. I have instructed my officers to be on alert and take precautionary actions rather than actions after the incidents," Bommai told media.

"The day before yesterday we had a high-level meeting...we are having a close watch," he added.

Violence erupted in Delhi on Sunday evening after groups protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those supporting it indulged in stone pelting at each other.

The confrontation soon turned communal and the violence spread to other areas of northeast Delhi including Chand Bagh, Mustafabad, Brijpuri, Shiv Vihar and Noor Ilahi on Monday and Tuesday in which at least 20 persons, including a police head constable, have died and over 200 have been injured.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: The Karnataka Government will impose stricter restrictions till March 31 to tackle the spread of COVID-19, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Monday.

''While all non-essential government establishments will also be closed from today, we are discussing on whether there should be a total shutdown similar to what was in place on Sunday during 'Janata Curfew'. We will take a call on this after discussing this with Opposition leaders by evening,'' he added.

Addressing press persons after a meeting with doctors and experts from private hospitals, the Chief Minister said free food will be served to the poor in Indira Canteens all through the day.
