Hum AAP jaise nahi, say item girls

April 18, 2014

Rakhi_matlab_dramaMumbai, Apr 18: Comparisons between item girls and Kejriwal haven't gone down well with the item girls, who say people should stop dragging them into this.

The shooting from the lip syndrome continues with some politicians, for reasons best known to them, comparing Arvind Kejriwal with item girls. From novelist Chetan Bhagat to Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray, many people seem to have taken a fancy to the analogy.

Arun Bakshi, a supporter of the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party), the latest one to draw the analogy, called Kejriwal an 'item girl of Congress' on account of the AAP's supposed focus on attracting crowds. Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, the first one to notice the 'similarity', had compared Kejriwal with item girl Rakhi Sawant, to which Rakhi had said that she would file a defamation lawsuit against him. We decided to ask some item girls what they thought about these comparisons.

They just want publicity: Rakhi Sawant Mere paas na inn sab faaltu cheezon ke liye ab bilkul time nahi hai, main sirf apni janta ka khayal rakhne pe dhyan dena chahti hoon. Aur yeh Arun Bakshi hain kaun? Mujhe lagta hai ki apna bheja inhe bilkul istemal nahi karna chahiye — itna cheap language, cheap comments karke. Janta bhookh se marr rahi hai, unke baare mein sochna chahiye. Par inn sab logon ko sirf aur sirf publicity chahiye.

They aren't even as educated as we are: Kashmera Shah Why do politicians always have to bring item girls into all this? This is just reflecting their illiteracy. Item numbers are very entertaining — Aishwarya has done it, Priyanka ne kiya hai, Malaika (Arora Khan) aur main kar rahe hain. I'd have them know that they are not even half as educated as I am; Malaika and I went to the same college. How well do any of these politicians know an item girl, anyway, on a personal level? They should, right, if they are making all these comments? Unfortunately, our kind of democracy allows even these kinds of people to contest for elections. If only CAs, engineers or doctors could contest, we would not, at least, have all this lack of education showing.

Don't make such loose comments about our profession: Mahek Chahal I am appalled at the statements made by some politicians where they have used the term 'item girl' in reference to people who are contesting for elections. It is shocking how they have generalised the term and insulted an art form, and a profession that has been around since the time of Helen aunty. Today, everyone from Aishwarya to Deepika have done item songs. I am proud to be an item girl, and having done several songs myself, I would request our honourable politicians to refrain from passing such loose comments on our profession.

They think item girl matlab Rakhi, Rakhi matlab drama: Sambhavna Seth Agar inn logon ko lagta hai ki jinse aur kuch nahi ho pata hai, woh item girl bante hain, toh main inko kahungi ki, kyun nahi, aap hi kuch bann kar bata do. Yeh nihayat hi badtameez insaan hain joh be-matlab yeh sab bol rahe hain. Ek baar inhe camera ke saamne khada kar dijiye, aur boliye nacho, tab inki batti gul ho jayegi. Item girls ko bahut easy target bana lete hain. Gadbad yeh ho gayi hai ki item girl has become synonymous with Rakhi Sawant — toh item girl matlab Rakhi, Rakhi matlab drama - aur suffer hum sabko karna padta hai iss wajah se. Agar yeh responsible citizens hote , responsible candidates hote, toh aise kisi ke profession ka mazaak nahi banaate. Yeh log toh public ka paisa khaate hain, item girls ka bhi paisa khate hain, toh yeh toh iss layak hi nahi hain ki item girls pe comment karein. Hum kum se kum dance karke, apne paison par toh jeete hain na. Hum jab vote kar dete hain, uske baad wait hi karte reh jaate hain ki ab paanch saal baad sarkar shayad achhi ho jayegi. Mere paas bhi politics join karne ke bahut offers aaye hain, par main tab join karungi jab mujhe lagega ki main logon ke liye kuch kar sakti hoon.

The Arvind Kejriwal-item girl analogies

Actor Arun Bakshi, who's supporting the BSP, called Kejriwal "the item girl of Congress", substantiating the comparison with AAP's supposed focus on merely 'attracting the crowd'.

Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray declared that Rakhi Sawant can be a better administrator than Mr Kejriwal. Thackeray put madari, bandar and item girls in the same league.

Chetan Bhagat, expressing his disappointment in the AAP, said that actresses who can't make it in Bollywood resort to item numbers for instant attention — the common trait between Kejriwal and the item girls.

Digvijay Singh, claiming to be "an old fan" of Rakhi Sawant, said that the similarity between Sawant and Kejriwal is that "both try and expose, but with no substance".

Feb 10: Bong Joon-ho’s film “Parasite” starts in a dingy, half-basement apartment with a family of four barely able to scratch out a life. There must be no place to go but up, right? Yes and no. There’s nothing predictable when the South Korean director is on his game.

This dark, socially conscious film about the intertwining of two families is an intricately plotted, adult thriller. We can go up, for sure, but Bong can also take us deeper down. There’s always an extra floor somewhere in this masterpiece.

It tells the story of the impoverished four-person Kim family who, one by one, and with careful and devious planning, all get employed by the four-person affluent Park family — as a tutor, an art teacher, a driver and a housekeeper. They are imposters stunned by the way wealth can make things easier: “Money is an iron. It smooths out all the creases,” says the Park patriarch with wonder.

Bong, who directed and wrote the story for “Parasite,” has picked his title carefully, of course. Naturally, he’s alluding to the sycophantic relationship by a clan of scammers to the clueless rich who have unwittingly opened the doors of their home on a hill. But it’s not that simple. The rich family seem incapable of doing anything — from dishes to sex — without help. Who’s scamming who?

Bong’s previous films play with film genres and never hide their social commentary — think of the environmentalist pig-caper “Okja” and the dystopian sci-fi global warming scream “Snowpiercer.” But this time, Bong’s canvas is a thousand times smaller and his focus light-years more intense. There are no CGI train chases on mountains or car chases through cities. (There is also, thankfully, 100% less Tilda Swinton, a frequent, over-the-top Bong collaborator.

The two Korean families first make contact when a friend of the Kim’s son asks him to take over English lessons for the Park daughter. Soon the son (a dreamy Choi Woo-sik) convinces them to hire his sister (the excellent Park So-dam) as an art teacher, but doesn’t reveal it’s his sis. She forges her diploma and spews arty nonsense she learned on the internet, impressing the polite but firm Park matriarch (a superb Jo Yeo-jeong.)

The Park’s regular chauffer is soon let go and replaced by the Kim patriarch (a steely Lee Sun-kyun). Ditto the housemaid, who is dumped in favor of the Kims’ mother (a feisty Jang Hye-jin.) All eight people seem happy with the new arrangement until Bong reveals a twist: There are more parasites than you imagined. The clean, impeccably furnished Park home will have some blood splashing about.

Bong’s trademark slapstick is still here but the rough edges of his often too-loud lessons are shaved down nicely and his actors step forward. “Keep it focused,” the Kim’s son counsels his father at one point. Bong has followed that advice.

There are typically dazzling Bong touches throughout. Just look for all the insect references — stink bugs at the beginning to flies at the end, and a preoccupation with odor across the frames. And there’s a scene in which the rich matriarch skillfully winds noodles in a bowl while, in another room, duct tape is being wrapped around a victim and classical music plays.

Bong could have been more strident in his social critique but hasn’t. There are no villains in “Parasite” — and also no heroes. Both families are forever broken after chafing against each other, a bleak message about the classes ever really co-existing (Take that, “Downton Abbey”).

“Parasite” is a worthy winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the first South Korean movie to win the prestigious top prize. The director has called it an “unstoppably fierce tragicomedy.” We just call it brilliant.

Mumbai, Aug 9:The questioning of Rhea Chakraborty's brother Showik by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, continued till around 6:30 am on Sunday, according to sources in the ED.

It is noteworthy that Showik Chakraborty had reached the ED office at around 12 pm on Saturday afternoon, following which the questioning by the investigative agency's officials went on for about 18 hours.

Tomorrow on August 10, Rhea, alongwith her father, Indrajit Chakraborty, are to be questioned by the ED officials.

Showik is named in the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Rhea was earlier questioned by the ED at its office in Mumbai in connection with the case. The agency also questioned Showik and Shruti Modi, former business manager of Rajput.

According to sources in the investigation agency, the officials have got hold of electronic evidence in connection with the case and they are also searching for phone records of conversations between Rhea and her father and brother.

The ED had already questioned Rhea once on Saturday, following which she was called back on Monday.

Meanwhile, CBI has collected documents related to the actor's death from Bihar Police. The ED has also asked the late actor's friend, Siddharth Pithani, to appear before the agency on August 8.

The agency had on July 31 registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in the case after FIR was filed by KK Singh, the late actor's father, against Rhea in Bihar on July 28.
The ED earlier interrogated Samuel Miranda, an associate of Rhea over the latter's properties, sources said.

The investigating agency has registered a case against six accused including Rhea in connection with Rajput's death.

Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.
