I don't like wasting money on expensive outfits: Alia Bhatt

March 20, 2017

New Delhi, Mar 20: She may have made her debut as a well-heeled student in "Student of the Year", but Alia Bhatt says she is not brand conscious in real life and does not like splurging on pricey clothes.

Alia

The 24-year-old actress, who was recently in the capital for the Amazon India Fashion Week, says she would wear something that compliments her than buy expensive clothes she might not wear again.

"I'm not brand conscious, when you talk about clothes. But when it comes to my shoes and bags, I'm brand conscious because you need them to last long as they are used on a daily basis.

"I can wear something right from Colaba Causeway store to a Gucci label in my wardrobe. It all depends on what will look good on me. I don't like wasting money on expensive outfits which I might not wear again. I'd rather mix and match," Alia told PTI.

She says although fashion has an age element attached to, it helps one understand what makes people around them tick.

"Fashion does age overtime. Like we can differentiate between what appears like a younger look or an older one. But I think fashion defines personality. It is the best way of looking at somebody, you finding something about them," says the actress.

When asked about how it was being a showstopper for fashion designer Namrata Joshipura at the recently concluded AIFW, Alia shares she does not consider herself to be a quintessential model material but enjoys her time on the ramp.

"Walking the ramp is a difficult task. It's very different from acting. It's pretty close to theatre. I really feel inspired by the models who have to constantly keep up with the energy doing the live show. There are no retakes.

"I won't call myself a model per se but I love being on the stage. Also, I don't walk for too many people. When I walk for someone, it should be special. I should share a personal relationship with that person like being with Maybelline (the brand she endorses)" says Alia.

Talking about her act as the main model, the "Badrinath ki Dulhaniya" star says she tries to bring out the personality of the showstopper while walking for a designer.

"When you walk the ramp for a designer as a showstopper, it's not about your personality... it's about what the designer wants to convey through you," says Alia.

Alia was happy to walk for Joshipure because "she has a very edgy and cool way of looking at things which translates into clothes."

"The muse always stands out after wearing her clothes. And it's always lovely to have that feel of being special when you are walking the ramp."

When asked about her recent film opposite Varun Dhawan being criticised for being regressive, the actress says she welcomes criticism and cannot ask people to think differently.

"I'm not somebody who is averse to criticism. I welcome all kinds of critique. But honestly, the film has been loved unanimously.

"There will always be some people who will say something different from what you think about the film. But that's their take. I'm not going to tell them what they should feel. But majority has loved the film and that's what matters."

Alia has two films, "Dragon" with Ranbir Kapoor and "Gully Boy" with Ranveer Singh, lined up for release this year.

New Delhi, April 6: Acknowledging on being scared and talking of not seeing his family for three weeks, actor Salman Khan along with nephew Nirvaan on Sunday shared their lockdown experience in a video message.

The 54-year-old star, without disclosing where the actor actually is, shared a video message on Twitter along with his brother Sohail Khan's son, Nirvaan.

Salman began the one-minute and 26-seconds long video, by saying: "We came here for a few days and now we're stuck and scared"

The 'Bharat' actor then introduced Nirvaan and asked him "How long has it been since you saw your father?", to which Nirvaan replied, "It must have been three weeks."

"I have not seen my father for three weeks. We are here and he is alone at home," Salman added.

The 'Sultan' actor then asks the boy: "You remember the film dialogue, 'the one who got scared, died.' It does not apply here in this situation. We are scared and bravely we admit that we are scared. Please don't be brave in this situation."

Nirvaan also further requested everybody to stay safe and maintain social-distance.

"I think it's better for everyone to stay home, avoid contact and I think the longer we stay indoors the faster this ends," he added.

The 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' star concluded the video by saying: "The one who got afraid saved himself and lives of others around him. Moral of the story, 'We're all scared'."

Urging people to take the government's advisory of self-isolation seriously amid the rising cases of coronavirus in the country, the megastar had earlier shared a video message for fans.

Indore, Jun 6: An FIR has been registered against television producer Ekta Kapoor and two others here in Madhya Pradesh on charges of spreading obscenity, hurting religious feelings, and improper use of national emblems in her web show 'Triple X season 2', police said on Saturday.

The FIR also mentions about a particular scene which allegedly portrays the Indian Army's uniform in a highly objectionable way, an officer said.

Besides Kapoor, the FIR names director of the web series Pankhudi Rodrigues and screenwriter Jessica Khurana, said Annapurna police station inspector Satish Kumar Dwivedi.

The complaint was lodged on Friday night by Valmik Sakaragaye and Neeraj Yagnik, both residents of Indore.

"Ekta Kapoor's OTT platform ALTBalaji streamed (erotic) web series 'Triple X season 2' which not only spread obscenity but also hurt religious feelings of a particular community," Dwivedi said quoting the complaint.

A scene in the web show portrayed the Indian Army's uniform in a highly objectionable manner and also disrespected the national emblems, he said.

Kapoor and others have been booked under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology (IT) Act, and the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005, Dwivedi said.

Mumbai-based Ekta Kapoor is the founder of ALTBalaji, which is owned by her production house, Balaji Telefilms.

Further investigation is underway, the police officer said.

Patna, Aug 3: Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey on Sunday charged that Vinay Tiwari, the IPS officer from Patna who is in Mumbai to probe a case related to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, has been "forcibly quarantined" by civic authorities in the metropolis.

Tiwari is heading a Bihar Police team which is in Mumbai to investigate an ''abetment to suicide'' case on the basis of a complaint filed by the late actor's father in Patna.

"IPS officer Vinay Tiwari reached Mumbai today from Patna on official duty to lead the police team there but he has been forcibly quarantined by BMC officials at 11 PM today," Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Pandey tweeted.

"He was not provided accommodation in the IPS mess, despite request, and was staying in a Guest House in Goregaon," he said.

Sushant's sister Shweta Singh Kirti has tweeted, " What? Is this even for real? How can an officer sent on duty be quarantined for 14 Days?".

Rajput, 34, was found hanging from the ceiling of his Bandra residence on June 24 last.

Last month, Rajput's father lodged an FIR here of abetment to suicide naming actress Rhea Chakraborty, said to be close to the deceased Patna-born actor, and her family members as accused. Tiwari was posted as the City SP (East) in Patna.

The Mumbai Police, which is also probing the death case, have so far recorded statements of nearly 40 people, including those from Rajput's family, his cook and people from the film industry that include filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali and filmmaker Aditya Chopra.
