"Because this film has been done so wonderfully by both Gauri (director) and Alia. I hope I don't let them down. I hope me and my stardom don't let it down. I have a role which is very important and so are all the others characters," he said.

The 51-year-old actor said he has always tried to do different things in his career and this film is one step in that direction.

"I haven't been able to assure that a star vehicle of mine will make people come and watch it. I do hear noises and voices sometimes about my decision to do films. I hear that I should be part of other stuff and not just star vehicles. I have done all that in my career but I want to do more and this is one step in that direction," Shah Rukh said.

According to the "Fan" star, he has never played such a role in his over 25-year career and is glad that director Gauri Shinde decided to cast him in the movie.

"I am a support in the film, more like an extended cameo. I am very glad to be in this film.

I have never played such a role in my entire career. In the film, many questions about life have been asked which we normally don't face- about ups and downs of life."

Shinde, who has previously directed acclaimed film "English Vinglish", said she only imagined SRK in the role of Dr Jahangir Khan and could not have cast anyone else.

"It had to be him. I haven't thought of anybody else. While writing I pictured him," she said.

Talking about her role, Alia said this is the most relatable character she has ever played.

"I relate to Kyra more than any character I have related to. I think a lot of young people will relate to. She has a lot of insecurities that she has to go through. She is moody so am I. I am not as impulsive as her. I am a little less but I related a lot to the way she thinks."

"Dear Zindagi" is produced by Gauri Khan, Karan Johar and Shinde under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions and Hope Productions respectively.

It also stars Ira Dubey, Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar and Angad Bedi.

Shah Rukh said the beauty of "Dear Zindagi is that it has been made by confident women.

"We live in a man's world and we talk about feminism and women empowerment. The beauty of this film is that the it has been made by confident women."

Chennai, Jan 15: Superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday called for neutrality in journalism and urged media outlets to report the truth.

Addressing an event organised by Tamil magazine ''Thuglak' in Chennai, the superstar-turned-politician said that the country needs a journalist like the late Cho S Ramaswamy, who helmed the publication for decades.

"The times, politics and society are going bad. In such a scenario, the media had a huge responsibility towards the people," he said.

Some television channels are biased towards political parties, Rajinikanth said. He added that media, critics and journalists must report the truth impartially.

Comparing true news to milk and fake reportage to water, Rajinikanth said people will not be able to distinguish between the two if they are mixed.

"Only journalists need to tell which portion is milk and which is water...write the truth and don't make a lie seem like truth," he said, amid applause.

New Delhi, Jun 22: Amidst a strain in the ties between India and Nepal, actor Manisha Koirala, a Nepali national, on Monday urged people of both the countries to be not "aggressive and disrespectful" towards each other.

Koirala, a leading Bollywood actor of her times, took to Twitter to request people to let the respective government resolve the issues and stay "civil."

"A heartfelt request please let's not be aggressive and disrespectful..we are in this situation together..our respective Gov's will resolve the issue. In the meantime we can be civil ..I remain hopeful," she tweeted.

Earlier last week, Nepal 's Upper House of Parliament endorsed a proposal to discuss the Constitution amendment bill to update the country's map that incorporates parts of Indian territory.

Nepal's House of Representatives had on June 10 endorsed a proposal seeking consideration of a constitution amendment bill for change of country's map after a lengthy discussion. Nepal has made offers to India to hold "diplomatic talks to resolve the territorial issue" between the two countries.

New Delhi has said that the updated map is "not based on historical facts and evidence" and termed the claims by Nepal as artificial enlargement.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava also said that the move is violative of the current understanding to hold talks on outstanding boundary issues.

Indore, Jan 14: Yoga guru Ramdev has said that Deepika Padukone should hire persons like him for offering correct advice, days after the actress had visited Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi following the violence at the campus earlier this month.

"Deepika Padukone needs to study about political, social and cultural issues. She should understand more about our country. Only after gaining knowledge, she should take decisions. I feel she should have persons like Swami Ramdev for correct advice," Ramdev said at an event here on Monday.

On January 7, Padukone joined the protest at JNU after a masked mob entered the varsity campus and attacked the students and teachers with sticks and rods on January 5.

Several BJP leaders questioned the support extended by Padukone. On the other hand, the Congress threw their weight behind the actress for her stand.
