Udupi, May 20: Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj said that the misleading propaganda and lies spread by the BJP about him caused his defeat in Udupi seat in recent state assembly polls.

Addressing workers of the Udupi Block Congress Committee at the Congress Bhavan here on Saturday, said that he never expected that he would be defeated as he had taken up many development works in Udupi Assembly constituency. “But the people believed the misleading propaganda of the BJP,” he said.

“When they realise the truth, they will turn against the BJP and back the Congress. I will visit government offices and help people whose work is getting delayed. I will continue my services to the people,” Mr. Madhwaraj added.

He said he would support the newly elected Udupi MLA K. Raghupati Bhat whenever he does good work, but would oppose any measures that are against the people. “Mr. Bhat has promised to resolve the sand extraction issue within a month. If he fails in the implementation of the project of getting water from Varahi river to Udupi city, I will protest against it,” he said.

Mr. Madhwaraj said that when he was the district in-charge Minister, he did not allow Congress workers to attack their BJP counterparts. But now, there are instances of BJP workers attacking Congress workers, he said, adding that if this does not stop, he would stage a dharna in front of police stations.

Mangaluru, Feb 16: Leaving spectators awestruck, Karnataka's Srinivasa Gowda ran 142.5 meters in 13.62 seconds at traditional buffalo race Kambala, following which people started comparing him to former Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt.

Gowda, who is from Mudbidri town, accomplished the feat during a Kambala race in a paddy field in Kadri on February 1.

"People are comparing me to Usain Bolt. He is a world champion, I am only running in a slushy paddy field," said Srinivasa Gowda.

People took to social media and drew a parallel between him and Bolt. Twitterati hailed Gowda and his accomplishment on the muddy grounds.

Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in the southwestern state of Karnataka.

Traditionally, it is sponsored by local Tuluva landlords and households in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

"I'll call Karnataka's Srinivasa Gowda for trials by top SAI Coaches. There's lack of knowledge in masses about the standards of Olympics especially in athletics where ultimate human strength & endurance are surpassed. I'll ensure that no talents in India is left out untested," Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted on Saturday.
