Brushing aside the allegations of so called love jihad', the well-educated girl, who has now changed her name as Shaista Sultana, said that no one forced her to accept Islam and that it was her wish to follow the religion and culture of her husband after the wedding.

“My life is mine and others have no business in it. I have been in love with a Muslim boy for past 12 years. He is my life. He is my future. I cannot live without him,” she said and requested the media not spread lies of love jihad'.

She also said that it was she who forced her Muslim friend and not vice versa. “Shakeel Ahmed (her boy friend) is very innocent boy. When he came to know that communal groups were harassing me and my parents for deciding to marry him, he was in shock. Finally, I and my parents convinced him and the wedding date was fixed,” she said.

“When both the families have agreed for the wedding who are they to oppose it? They are not only harassing us but also going against the constitution and law,” she said reminding that she has the right to choose her life partner.

Workers of the BJP and Bajrang Dal had protested outside her house in Mandya on Tuesday. Ashitha said some people even barged into her house and created tension. They have also called for a district-wide band on Saturday (April 16) in protest against the marriage, which is scheduled for April 17.

Threat call from Dubai

Meanwhile, Ashitha's father Dr Narendra Babu said he was getting threat calls. Speaking to reporters, he said a man claiming to be calling from Dubai warned him that if the marriage was not cancelled, either Ashitha or Shakeel would be bumped off. Another man, who identified himself as Avinash Joshi, offered to “personally counsel” the couple against the marriage.

Dr Babu said he had reported the threat calls to Diwakar, deputy director, Department of Women and Child Development, who has assured to take the necessary action. “Our daughter's happiness is all that matters. Our thanks to all those who support us,” he said.

Pran Shetty, Mangalore,
\In future every girl will do the same thing.\"
You mean Hindu girls marrying Muslim boys?
Then you will have to prove that you are better then others. Joining BD, RSS, SRS fringe groups, will not make you a better person but, a goonda which girls generally hate to get married."

This is called intolerance. Who said there is no intolerance in India?

Yes I do agree Indians are not intolerance. But those who identify themselves as Hindus instead of Indians are intolerance.

There are many cases of Muslim and Christians girls marrying Hindu boys. But as a society Muslims and Christians never staged protest in such cases.

Hindus must learn from Muslims and Christians: How to live and how to behave.

Bengaluru, Apr 5: The COVID-19 related lockdown has substantially improved the air quality of Bengaluru, taking it from satisfactory level to good, a senior state pollution control board offcial said here on Sunday.

"During the course of the lockdown 19 problem, we reached good position from satisfactory.

It is between zero to 50 AQI (Air Quality Index) now. We have good quality air," the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board member secretary Basavaraj Patil told PTI.

He said the indicator for knowing the air quality in

"If the AQI is zero to 50 then it is good. If it is 50 to 100 then it is satisfactory. 101 to 150 is moderate and if it is 151 to 200, then it is poor, he explained.

Patil said as per available recrods, there has been a 60 to 65 per cent reduction in pollution during the lockdown.

The city railway station and Peenya industrial area, which used to be among the areas with highest AQI, has seen pollution levels come down significantly, he said.

Another major contributor of pollution was construction activities, which too had ground to a halt due to the lockdown, resulting in zero dust emission.

Patil opined that the improved air quality would boost the immune system of the people.

"It will improve the immune system of people, including those who have breathing problems like asthma," he said.

He asked the public to learn lessons from the lockdown and later switch to sustainable means of transport such as public transport, walking and cycling,.

"We can still reduce the pollution load even after the lockdown is over," Patil said.

Mangaluru, May 6: Amidst delay in repatriation of Kannadigas stuck in Gulf countries including UAE and Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the office bearers, the executive committee and members of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce & Industry, its president Mr S M Rasheed Haji and executive committee member U T Ifthikar Ali today (May 6) called on authorities concerned in Dakshina Kannada to persuade them to follow up with the State and Central level authorities.

The duo met Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dakshina Kannada MP, who immediately contacted Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, over phone and urged him to take up the issue with the external affairs ministry. Mr Joshi told Mr Kateel that efforts are still underway to bring back Kannadigas stranded in Gulf countries. However flights schedules are yet to be finalised.

The duo then met Kota Srinivas Poojary, district in-charge minister, who said that the government is prepared to handle the repatriation flights and passengers.

The duo also met IAS officer Rahul Shinde, who is in-charge of affairs related to international passengers coming to Dakshina Kannada amid covid-19 crisis. Meanwhile, Zakariya Jokatte, president of Jubail unit of BCCI, spoke to Mr Shindhe over phone.

The official explained that the govt has made elaborate arrangements to conduct medical test of passengers on arrival at the Mangaluru International Airport.

The passengers will be categorised into A, B and C groups depending on their symptoms and co-morbid conditions. The category A passengers (symptomatic passengers) will be sent to isolation hospitals which may be Covid care centres. Category B passengers (asymptomatic but suffering from co-morbid conditions) will be quarantined at hotels, hostels, guest houses etc. Category C passengers (asymptomatic and healthy) will be home quarantined.

The minister and official also sought BCCI’s cooperation in handling the situation.

Quarantine accommodation facility

Yenepoya group has already offered two of their hotels as quarantine accommodation and promised to offer one more.  Entrepreneur U Kanachur Monu and many others too have offered their hotels as quarantine accommodation in Mangaluru.

District administration has asked Treebo, a hotel aggregator to list such willing facilities on their website.

Bengaluru, June 23: Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar has urged his party colleagues to be active on social media to counter the propaganda of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Speaking to media persons, the KPCC president said that no more than 20 out of the 68 Congress MLAs are active on social media.

“All those MLAs who are doing well need to be projected. We want leaders, not mere followers. They all should be the face of Congress in Karnataka. Party should not depend on just my face or Siddaramaiah’s,” he said.

Shivakumar’s diktat has resulted in the party’s social media unit scrambling to get leaders to create their accounts.

“We’re pressuring all the party MLAs and leaders. We’re asking their personal assistants or gunmen to operate their accounts if they are not savvy with social media,” KPCC social media chief A N Nataraj Gowda said.

He pointed out that the 20 MLAs who are active on social media include U T Khader, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Priyank Kharge, Krishna Byre Gowda among others.

“We’re also trying to get the accounts verified of those who are beginning to get active. For example, it was only recently that we got the accounts of S R Patil and Vijay Singh verified,” Gowda said.

Tapping the full potential of social media is crucial for the Congress because the BJP has found much success in reaching out to voters through various online platforms.

In fact, ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections, the Congress found that there were 10 ministers and some 40 MLAs who had turned a blind eye towards social media.

Shivakumar said he was also working on putting in place a system in the party under which all developments related to the state and country will be communicated to all party leaders at 10 am every day.
