If alive, Kuvempu wouldn't have let Shah visit Kuppali: Siddaramaiah

Shivamogga, Apr 4: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that if poet laureate Kuvempu was alive, the writer would not have allowed BJP president Amit Shah to visit Kuppali, the native place of the poet.

Referring to Shah's recent visit to Kuppali, the chief minister said Kuvempu believed in 'universal man' concept and advocated communal harmony through his works. But, Shah's beliefs are against it, Siddaramaiah said at a rally here.

He appealed to voters of Shivamogga no to back the BJP in the coming polls as its state president B S Yeddyurapppa has tarnished the image of the district by indulging in corruption. Three other former chief ministers who hailed from the district, the late Kadidal Manjappa, the late S Baggarappa and the late J H Patel did not sully the image of the district when they were in power.

Referring to areca growers' issue, the chief minister said Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel has stated in Parliament that arecanut was injurious to health. It seems that she has no idea that areca is different from gutka. He assured that the Congress is committed to safeguard the interests of areca growers.

He said he had released Rs 85 crore for the welfare of areca growers.

Udupi, May 21: In a shocking development, as many as 27 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in the coastal district of Udupi today. 

Another shocker is, 16 among 27 covid-19 patients are children. The rest are six men and five women. 

Interestingly, all of them have inter-state travel history. 23 had come from Maharashtra and 3 from Telangana. Another one had come from Kerala to Manipal. More details are awaited.

Mangaluru, May 5: The principal of St Agnes College, Mangaluru, Sr Dr Jeswina AC attained superannuation after 28 years of dedicated and fruitful service.

Sister Dr Venissa AC, the associate professor of the department of Economics, has been appointed by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society Management as the principal of the college. Sister Roopa Rodrigues AC. has been appointed as the vice principal.

Sr Dr Venissa AC was earlier serving as the vice principal at St Agnes College.

The college and the management has thanked Sr Dr Jeswina AC for the dedicated services she has rendered to the college.

Mumbai, June 7: As the Maharashtra government has given green signal for outdoor physical activities under 'Mission Begin Again' despite amidst growing cases of covid-19,  thousands of Mumbaikars flocked to Marine Drive for 'morning walks' on Sunday.

People were seen wearing masks as a precaution from the novel coronavirus pandemic, however, from the viral photo, it seems that no social distancing norms were followed what so ever.

"Better call it marne waalon ka drive," said a Twitter user. "Still people have no sense of responsibility," said another Twitter user.

After nearly 80 days of lockdown, Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra revved back to life on Friday. 

Most markets, market areas, commercial and trading areas - barring malls or market complexes - reopened for business even as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reiterated that "people should tread cautiously while beginning a 'new life' from today".

Meanwhile, of the total 82,968 cases in Maharashtra, Mumbai now accounts for 47,354 cases and 1,577 deaths.

On Saturday, Maharashtra reported 120 deaths, including 58 in Mumbai, due to COVID-19, taking the overall number of fatalities to 2,969, state Health department said.

The recovery rate in the state stands at 45.06 per cent and the fatality rate at 3.57 per cent, an official statement said.
