Bellary, May 19: Samaj Parivartana Samudaya founder-president S R Hiremath has demanded action against the senior officer including Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh for their alleged role in illegal mining carried out by Reddy brothers in Bellary.

Speaking to media persons in Bellary on Saturday Mr Hiremath said that Seemant Kumar Singh during his tenure as the Superintendent of Police of Bellary, had extended all kinds of support to Reddy brother in their illegal activities.

He also recalled that Mr Singh as the Bellary SP had failed to serve numerous arrest-warrants on then tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy.

Action against officials

Mr. Hiremath said that in the wake of the Supreme Court order on May 11, 2012 directing the CBI to investigate the case, the organisations would urge the agency for action against all the officials belonging to various departments allegedly involved in illegal de-notification of land and illegal mining.

Fight continues

Pledging to continue his fight against illegal mining and illegal de-notification of land, Mr Hiremath clarified that the fight would not be focussed on any particular party or individual.

“In the 1,400-page writ petition filed before the Supreme Court, we have brought to the notice of the court the illegal mining in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh from 2000 to 2010. In the subsequent 1,000-page Interlocutory Application (IA) we have given further inputs and documents on the rampant illegal mining at various stages,” he said.

Mr. Hiremath said that senior officer U.V. Singh had, in his report, clearly mentioned the extent of illegal mining during the tenures of S.M. Krishna, N. Dharam Singh, H.D. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Yeddyurappa. “While the Supreme Court has ordered a CBI inquiry against Mr. Yeddyurappa, it is likely to take up such cases that happened during the tenures of the former Chief Ministers on August 3. Our fight will go on against all those who are involved in illegal de-notification and illegal mining,” he said.

To another query, he alleged that the former Minister D.K. Shivakumar too was involved in cases of illegal mining when S.M. Krishna was the Chief Minister. “There are 20 mining companies involved in illegal mining allegedly run by family members of the Reddy brothers and the wife of the former Minister B. Sriramulu,” he alleged. “We will not spare anyone however influential that individual or company might be,” he said.

He said that various people, including government employees and officials, had provided information to the organisation that proved crucial in the fight against illegal mining and illegal de-notification of land.

“We have documents and they will be submitted in court in the fight against illegal mining and illegal de-notification of land. We will submit documents in two more cases of illegal de-notification of land involving Mr. Yeddyurappa,” he said.

New Delhi, Jul 22: Sir Philip Barton visited Bengaluru on Tuesday in the first of the series of virtual regional visits as the UK's new High Commissioner and called Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, business leaders, and startup community to pitch for new momentum in the already strong UK-Karnataka relationship.

During his virtual call, High Commissioner Barton got a 'real' taste of Bengaluru through a traditional Masala Dosa delivered to his residence in Delhi along with authentic south Indian filter coffee, which he relished over a chat with historian and commentator Ramachandra Guha. They discussed the unique UK-India "living bridge" across culture and cuisine, history and heritage, and sports and science.

Both Yeddyurappa and the British envoy restated their commitment to working together on the immediate challenges of Covid-19 and beyond.

Barton subsequently 'traveled' to Electronics City, where he met with a range of key business leaders to discuss deepening the UK-India tech partnership and opportunities for global investors in the UK.

Barton also met with a group of entrepreneurs, business founders and innovators, who were part of the first GoGlobal UK cohort to explore the dynamic UK market considered one of the best ecosystems for startups in the world.

They had earlier attended a week-long boot-camp in London and Manchester in December 2019 that helped them bolster their business skills, build links with UK's thriving digital sector, and paved the way for future partnerships.

"I am delighted to make my first regional virtual visit to Bengaluru, the technology hub of India. My visit comes at a difficult time for everyone. So it is also a time when the excellent collaboration between the UK and Karnataka across technology and healthcare could not be important," Barton said.

"Making the most of those close links, and drawing on the great energy, innovation and entrepreneurship that Karnataka is famous for, will be central to ensuring we all recover from Covid-19 stronger than ever," he added.

Newsroom, Feb 21: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has claimed that Amulya Leona, who raised pro-Pakistan slogans at a pro-India event in Bengaluru, had links with Naxalites.

The 19-year-old B.A. student was arrested on sedition charge after she raised pro-Pakistan slogans at a peaceful protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Bengaluru yesterday.

"Bail should not be given to Amulya. Her father has also said he won't protect her. It’s proved now that she had contacts with Naxals. Proper punishment should be given," Yediyurappa said in Mysuru today.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who snatched mike from Amulya’s hand, said that her slogans only helped Bharatiya Janata Party and those who are trying to suppress people’s movement against racism and communalism.

Interestingly, Amulya hails from a family which has close association with Sangh Parivar. Her father Wazi Noronha was a leader of minority of wing of BJP in Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.

He had worked in support of hardline BJP leader and Udupi-Chickmagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, and D N Jeevaraj, who had represented Sringeri constituency last time.

Meanwhile, a group of people attacked the house of Wazi at Gullagadde near Koppa last night. A group of Bajrang Dal activists also compelled him to shout ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
