Imtiaz Ali, Irshad Kamil’s contribution immense in my career: Ranbir Kapoor

New Delhi, Feb 8: Ranbir Kapoor says director Imtiaz Ali and lyricist Irshad Kamil, with whom he worked in 2011 hit ‘Rockstar’, have contributed a lot to his success in Bollywood.

The 32-year-old actor was lavishly praised by fans and critics for his intense performance of a college student, whose turbulent love story turns him into a rockstar in the romantic saga.

Ranbir is again collaborating with the duo in his upcoming movie ‘Tamasha’, which also stars his ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ co-star Deepika Padukone.

“Their contribution to the film industry is well known and to my career it has been immense. I cherish working with Imtiaz. He and Irshad are responsible for what I have achieved in Bollywood with ‘Rockstar’.

“I have worked with Irshad in two other films, besides ‘Rockstar’ so I have a deep association with him. When I heard the songs of ‘Rockstar’, especially ‘Jo Bhi Mai…’, it gives you a sense of the gaps you feel as an actor, that you know are hard to fill in through a performance, Irshad fills those with his words and it makes your character more believable,” he said.

The ‘Barfi!’ star, who along with Imtiaz released Irshad’s new book of poems here, said he finds poetry difficult to comprehend but is learning from the lyricist on the sets of ‘Tamasha’.

“Poetry is something you need to understand. You can read it but there are many deep meanings behind the words written in it. Working with Imtiaz and especially on ‘Tamasha’, which has a lot to do with story-telling and poetry, I’ve got to understand it. I’ve spent a lot time with Irshad and A R Rahman in the recordings,” he said.

The actor has always maintained he would love to venture into direction sometime in future but does not think himself capable enough to take up writing.

“Writing requires certain kind of skills, which I don’t think I have. I think I can’t write, just like I can’t take to singing,” he said.

Ranbir said he likes having stress in his life as he feels anxiety keeps an actor on his toes always, which is important for one’s performance.

“I think stress and anxiety are important. Without them, one tends to remain content, which limits the performance,” the actor said.

Chennai, Jan 15: Superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday called for neutrality in journalism and urged media outlets to report the truth.

Addressing an event organised by Tamil magazine ''Thuglak' in Chennai, the superstar-turned-politician said that the country needs a journalist like the late Cho S Ramaswamy, who helmed the publication for decades.

"The times, politics and society are going bad. In such a scenario, the media had a huge responsibility towards the people," he said.

Some television channels are biased towards political parties, Rajinikanth said. He added that media, critics and journalists must report the truth impartially.

Comparing true news to milk and fake reportage to water, Rajinikanth said people will not be able to distinguish between the two if they are mixed.

"Only journalists need to tell which portion is milk and which is water...write the truth and don't make a lie seem like truth," he said, amid applause.

The actor, who was quarantined and kept under medication in April, also urged those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate their plasma.

"Donated my blood today for the Plasma therapy trials at Nair hospital. It was fascinating! Always a silver lining I suppose. The team there was so enthusiastic and careful. There was a general physician on standby just incase of emergency and the equipment brand new and safe (sic)," Zoa wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

She thanked the doctors for taking care of her and hoped patients benefit from the donation.

"All #Covid19 recovered people can be a part of this trial, to help others covid patients recover! I hope this works #IndiaFightsCorona. They even gave me a certificate and Rs 500. Wont lie, I felt super cool today (sic)," she added.

Zoa, along with her sister Shaza and father, producer Karim Morani had tested positive for coronavirus in April. All three were discharged from the hospital after testing negative last month.
