India coach Anil Kumble asks BCCI for a 150% pay hike for Grade 'A' players

May 22, 2017

Hyderabad, May 22: Chief coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday demanded a massive hike to the tune of 150 per cent for Grade A players in the Central Contracts and substantial raise for the support staff.

In Hyderabad, Kumble gave a detailed presentation to the Committee of Administrators (COA) along with BCCI office-bearers ?CEO Rahul Johri, joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhary.

Skipper Kohli was not in Hyderabad and interacted with the panel separately via Skype.

As of now, Grade A players get Rs 2 crore, Grade B Rs 1 crore and Grade C Rs 50 lakh.

As per reliable sources, both Kumble and Kohli feels that players in Grade A, who are certainties in all formats should be getting in the range of Rs 5 crore for one season.

Vinod Rai and Vikram Limaye heard everything that Kumble and Kohli had to say and they have instructed the BCCI office?earers to take note of Kumble? presentation.

It will be Johri, Amitabh and Aniruddh, who will now decide on rationale of demands. They will prepare a report and then COA will take a final call in this regard.

?lthough Anil and Virat spoke separately, both stressed on the fact that performers in Test cricket should be kept in the highest bracket. Also there is someone like Cheteshwar Pujara, who is not getting IPL contracts whereas someone like Pawan Negi, who doesn? even play Ranji Trophy gets Rs 8.5 crore for 45 days. That? something that needs to be worked out,?a senior BCCI source in the know of things said.

It was learnt that Kumble also gave a detailed presentation, demanding a favourable raise for all the support staff of the Indian team. It includes Kumble himself, batting coach Sanjay Bangar, fielding coach R Sridhar, physio, trainer, video analyst, throwdown specialist (Raghavendra).

? won? quote the figure but it? a substantial raise that Kumble has demanded for himself also. Now while raising the issue of players, whether it was prudent on Kumble? part to demand hike for support staff of which he is a direct beneficiary is a question,?an official questioned.

Kumble? contract expires at the end of India? Champions Trophy campaign but he is likely to continue till end of West Indies tour.

It will come up for renewal before the Sri Lanka series.

While there is a section in BCCI which is not at all happy with Kumble? role in the whole Central Contracts issue, it will not be an easy task to remove him as it would need the nod from the Committee of Administrators.

Hamilton, Jan 28: No one sits on the seat that Mahendra Singh Dhoni made his own in the team bus, revealed India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, saying that the talismanic former skipper is missed by the side.

In a video shot inside the team bus while it was on its way to Hamilton for the third T20 International against New Zealand, Chahal is seen talking to several members of the squad including Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.

Towards the end of the video, he moved to the rear of the bus and pointed to an empty seat which, he said, was the former captain's preferred spot before he went on a sabbatical last year.

"Yeh woh seat hai jahan ek legend baithate the. Mahi bhai. Abhi bhi yaha koi nahi baithata. Hum unhe bohot miss karte hai (This is the seat that used to be occupied a legend. MS Dhoni. No one sits here now. We miss him a lot)," Chahal said in the video posted on 'bcci.tv'.

The-38-year-old Dhoni has not played a competitive game since the World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand on July 9. Earlier this month, Dhoni was dropped from the BCCI's list of centrally contracted players, raising fresh doubts on his future.

However, on the same day, Dhoni returned to training, batting fluently in the Jharkhand team nets.

Head coach Ravi Shastri has hinted that the celebrated wicketkeeper-batsman might retire from ODIs soon but will be in contention for a T20 World Cup berth provided he does well for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

The Indian team lead the five-match T20 series against New Zealand 2-0.

Virat Kohli's men will take on the hosts in the third T20 here on Wednesday.
