'India's Daughter' doesn't defame India: Farhan Akhtar

Mumbai, Mar 12: After veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar voiced his strong opinion in favour of "India's Daughter", his son Farhan Akhtar has come forward to support the controversial documentary, saying filmmaker Leslee Udwin's intent is not to defame India.

Farhan AkhtarThe documentary, on the December 16, 2012 gang rape in Delhi, has triggered an uproar over the interview of Mukesh Singh, one of the six rapists of the 23-year-old paramedical student.

Farhan watched the documentary "India's Daughter" at its premiere in the US."Watched #IndiasDaughter last night at the U.S. premiere in NYC. Raises some serious questions about the concept of masculinity...The filmmaker's intent is clear. It is not to defame India but use an event that reverberated around the globe as the basis for her study..." Farhan posted on Twitter.

The actor-filmmaker, who himself launched a social campaign MARD (Man Against Racial Discrimination) in 2013 to promote gender equality and women empowerment, added: "The director's focus on the aftermath ie public outrage/protests/amendment of law speaks volumes of our vibrant democracy."

"India's Daughter" documents the brutal assault on a girl who was gang raped by a group of men, including the driver and cleaner, in a moving bus when she was returning home with her male friend. It also features an interview with the victim's parents.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 15: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has condoled the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and recalled his support to the state during the floods in 2018.

The 34-year old Bollywood actor was found hanging at his apartment in Mumbai on Sunday.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. His early demise is a great loss to the Indian Film industry. Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and supporters," Vijayan said in a tweet.

"We take a moment to remember his support during the time of Kerala floods

During the deluge in August, 2018, a fan had tagged him in a comment on his Instagram post and said, he don't have the money, but wanted to donate some food.

The actor, who spotted the comment, replied that he will donate Rs one crore in his fan's name.

Rajput donated Rs one crore to CMDRF in the name of his fan and uploaded the screenshot saying, My Kerala.

Jerusalem, Jun 17: Calling Sushant Singh Rajput as "a true friend", Israel has expressed its deepest condolences at the passing away of the young Bollywood star.

Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Bandra apartment on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Gilad Cohen, deputy director-general of Israel's foreign ministry, took to Twitter to mourn the actor's sudden demise.

"Sending my deepest condolences on the passing of Sushant Singh Rajput, a true friend of Israel. You will be missed!" Cohen wrote while sharing the link of the song "Makhna" from the actor's last film "Drive".

Sushant and his co-star Jacqueline Fernandez had shot the song in Israel as part of its ongoing efforts to bring Bollywood to the country.

New Delhi, May 26: As the country celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in the testing times of coronavirus this year, megastar Shah Rukh Khan's greetings reflected of blessings from the almighty to help the countrymen sail through the tough times.

The 54-year-old actor took to Twitter to extend Eid greetings to his fans.

"May the blessings of Allah see us through these times," he wrote in the tweet.

"In the end, it's Faith that keeps us going... Eid Mubarak to all. May He shower all with love, peace and prosperity always," Khan's tweet further read.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramzan, which is a month of fasting and prayer for the Muslim community.

This year, Eid is being celebrated amid a nationwide lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of COVID-19.
