New Delhi, Jul 29: Indrani Mukerjea, former media personality and a key accused in the murder of her daughter Sheena, set out looking for a “good place” days before the killing where she would dispose of her body, a Mumbai court was told on Friday.

indraniShaymvar Rai, a former driver of Indrani, who was made an approver in the case in June last year, said she also wanted to kill Mikhail, Sheena’s brother.

During his examination, Rai said in March 2012, Indrani, who was then abroad, told him through online video chat application Skype that she wanted to kill Sheena and Mikhail, her two kids from an earlier relationship.

“Indrani said she will take care of my kids, their education and family’s medical expenses, and assured that I will have a permanent job,” Rai claimed.

The crime unfolds

In April 2012, Indrani asked him to find places around Lonavla and Mumbai for dumping the bodies of Mikhail and Sheena after the murder, Rai said.

The next day he picked up Indrani from airport, and on the way home she told him that she wanted to kill Sheena and Mikhail in two days.

Indrani went with him to look for places to dump the bodies. At a spot near Khandala (near Lonavla) she said, “This place will be good for Mikhail.”

‘Good place’

After seeing another spot in Khopoli she said it would be good for Sheena, Rai claimed. Then she spoke to husband Peter Mukerjea over phone in English, Rai said, adding she said it was a good place.

On April 24, 2012, the day Sheena was murdered, Indrani bought six bottles of medicines, one of vodka and two small water bottles. On reaching home, she asked Rai to add the medicines to the liquor and water bottles. It was Indrani who gave the drug-laced water to Sheena when she arrived that evening, Rai said.

As they were moving in the Bandra-Pali Hill area, “Sheena was sitting in the car with eyes closed. Indrani asked me to stop the car and Khanna (Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani’s former husband, a co-accused) got up and sat on the rear seat (next to Sheena and Indrani),” Rai said.

He then saw Khanna grab Sheena’s hair and Indrani strangle her. Indrani asked Rai to cover Sheena’s mouth. The body was taken home and kept in the garage, he said.

On April 25, Indrani, Rai and Khanna drove towards Pen (in Raigad district) with Sheena’s body. On the way, Rai said, Indrani tidied Sheena’s hair and applied lipstick. The body was taken to a spot near Pen where Khanna poured petrol on it and Indrani set it on fire, he said.

Ajitesh is married to Sakshi, daughter of the MLA and the couple had eloped last year and got married.

According to police, the youth was on his way home after buying medicines for his friend's father when his bike hit Ajitesh's SUV. Ajitesh and his friend thrashed the youth and snatched his cell phone.

Both have been sent to jail.

The complainant Deepanshu Maheshwari said, "When I overtook Ajitesh's car, he chased and waylaid me in the middle of the road. Thereafter, he and his friend thrashed me and snatched my phone. SHO Balbir Singh and his team rescued me."

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 5: One man has been arrested in connection with the death of a pregnant elephant in Palakkad district here, Kerala Forest Minister K Raju said on Friday.

"One accused identified as Wilson has been arrested in connection with the case. More people are involved. The process to arrest all the accused is underway. Strict action will be taken in the matter to ensure such incidents are not repeated in the future," Raju told reporters here.

The elephant had died in Palakkad district on May 27 after it ate a pineapple stuffed with crackers and forest officials said that it died standing in river Velliyar after it suffered an injury in its lower jaw.

Raju said that the forest department has appointed three teams to probe the matter, and added that police are also investigating the incident as explosives were used.

"There may be some type of crackers inside the fruit. In such cases, blast occurs and the animal can not even drink water. The primary post mortem reports said that this case is like that. Let it be investigated," he said.

"Man and animal conflict is natural in our state as people residing close to the forests. The government gives compensation for farmers, Rs 10 lakhs compensation if a person dies in an animal attack," the Minister added.

The death of the pregnant elephant has sparked a controversy, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan terming the unfortunate death as "a painful thing" and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar saying that the Centre has taken a "serious note" of the incident.

According to the preliminary post-mortem report, the immediate cause of the death of the female elephant was drowning followed by inhalation of water leading to lung failure.

The elephant was seen standing in the river with its mouth and trunk in the water for some relief from the pain after the explosive-filled fruit exploded in its mouth.
