Kasaragod, Mar 24: ‘Atal Tinkering Laboratory,’ a Niti Ayog’s flagship programme Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) aimed at encouraging young science enthusiasts to come up with innovative ideas, will be set up at the Greenwoods Public School, Bekal.

Rs. 20 lakh for lab

The school will receive Rs. 20 lakh to set up a state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with robotic kit and other sophisticated electronic gadgets to set up a platform to promote innovation hubs and start-up business in technology-driven areas. ATL has been conceived with a vision to promote one million children as innovators.

The AIM is arranging funds to set up ATL in select higher secondary schools across the nation to foster curiosity, creativity, imagination, computational thinking and adaptive learning among the budding talents.

Selection process

The school was selected during the two-day innovation challenge contest held at the Hyderabad-based Osmania University from November 15.

The institution was represented by three Plus Two science stream students and faculty members, School Principal M. Ramachandran said.

As part of the programme, the school will seek support from Union government institutions in the district, including the Central University of Kerala, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL), to facilitate hosting of workshops and classes for science enthusiasts even from other educational institutions.

ATLs, part of the Atal Innovation Mission, are being set up in schools across India to help create an innovation ecosystem in the country.
