Mar 24: The spinning trio of Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, and Ravindra Jadeja helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) record an easy win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

On a turning track, the spinners helped CSK bundle out RCB for just 70 runs.

CSK were able to chase the target quite easily, winning the match by eight wickets with 2.2 overs to spare.

Chasing a below-par score of 71, CSK got off to a bad start as opener Shane Watson was clean bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal. Watson was sent back to the pavilion for a duck.

Chahal and Moeen Ali kept on maintaining pressure on the CSK batsman as they were able to keep both Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina in check, not allowing them to score freely.

CSK were reduced to just 16 runs in the first six overs. But the batsmen were able to increase the tempo of their innings when Mohammad Siraj came into the bowling attack.

Raina was dismissed by Ali for 19 runs as he was looking to end the match in a hurry. Raina with a knock of 19 runs, became the first batsman to complete 5000 runs in the IPL.

Kedhar Jadhav, who came into bat at number four stitched a brief partnership of 19 runs with Rayudu bringing CSK closer to the target. But Rayudu was dismissed for 28 by Siraj, with CSK still requiring 12 more runs to secure a win.

Jadeja joined Jadhav in the middle and these two ensured CSK's victory in the 18th over. Jadhav and Jadeja remained unbeaten on 13 and 6 respectively.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and they opted to bowl first.

Asked to bat first, RCB got off to a poor start as they lost captain Virat Kohli in the fourth over of the innings. The captain was dismissed by Harbhajan Singh for just six runs.

Singh continued to wreak havoc with his bowling as he dismissed Ali (9) and AB de Villers (9) in quick succession.

The debutant Shimron Hetmyer failed to put up an impressive show with the bat as he was dismissed for a duck via a run-out. With Hetmyer's dismissal, RCB were reduced to forty for four.

Royal Challengers kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, failing to put up any resistance in the middle. Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja got among the wickets as well on a spinning turf in Chennai.

The team was bowled out for 70 runs and Parthiv Patel with 29 runs was the highest scorer for RCB, whereas Harbhajan and Tahir took three wickets each for CSK.

This total by RCB was the sixth lowest score recorded by any team in the tournament, the lowest ever score has also been recorded by RCB as they were bowled out for 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2017.

RCB have now lost their seventh consecutive match against CSK, they last defeated them in the year 2014 at Bengaluru.

Royal Challengers have not won a single match against CSK at Chennai since the year 2008.

CSK next take on Delhi Capitals on March 26 at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi whereas RCB will take on Mumbai Indians on March 28 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Lausanne, Mar 25: The World Archery has hailed as a 'brave decision' the International Olympic Committee (IOC) move to postpone the 2020 Tokyo Olympics until next year due to coronavirus pandemic.

"We commend the conscientious and brave decision taken by Tokyo 2020 and the International Olympic Committee to delay this summer's Games in the face of an unprecedented challenge to humanity," Ugur Erdener, the World Archery president, said in an official statement.

The decision to postpone the Summer Olympics was confirmed by the IOC, on Tuesday, after the organising body for the event and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to reschedule the quadrennial event in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is not an easy situation, especially for the athletes who had been training hard for Tokyo 2020. I hope that everyone understands why this decision has been made and I urge archers around the world to retain hope and reset for this new timetable," he added.

The IOC has, however, said that the original name of Tokyo 2020 will remain intact irrespective of the fact that it will take place next year.

The Tokyo Olympic Games were slated to be held from July 24 to August 9.

Bengaluru, Jun 4: Indian men's hockey team defender Harmanpreet Singh is delighted and honoured to be nominated for the Arjuna Award by Hockey India.

The Indian women's hockey team captain Rani Rampal has been nominated for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award while her compatriots Vandana Katariya, Monika and Harmanpreet Singh have been nominated for the Arjuna Award.

"I was extremely delighted to hear the news. It's an honour to be nominated for the Arjuna Award and I am sure the nomination will motivate me to perform even better in the upcoming years. All of us have received tremendous support from Hockey India over the years and I was extremely happy to know that Rani has been nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and Vandana Katariya and Monika have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. They have put up some brilliant performances in the recent past and I would like to extend my congratulations to them," Harmanpreet said.

The 24-year-old dragflick sensation stepped up his role in the team and shouldered the responsibility of vice-captain with aplomb. As a defender-dragflicker, he was instrumental in the team's winning performance in the FIH Series Finals in Odisha. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Test Event, he captained the team to victory in the absence of Manpreet Singh who was rested for the tournament.

Harmanpreet was also part of the Indian team that won the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers against Russia last year. Harmanpreet said that he has been able to perform for the team only because of the support he has received from his teammates.

"I am very happy with the way I have been contributing to the team in the last couple of years. However, I have been able to come up with the goods only because of the way my teammates have supported me. Hockey is a team sport and all of us ensure that we are contributing to the team's cause in some way or the other. If we score a goal, then it's not only the goal scorer, who takes the credit, but the entire team is credited for a particular effort," said the defender.

Harmanpreet added that booking a place in the Tokyo Olympic Games was the biggest achievement for the team in 2019.

"It was simply amazing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in front of our home crowd last year. I will cherish the memory forever. The balance of our side was fantastic and everyone chipped in to make the tournament a memorable one. Now, we will give everything we can to come up with great results at the Olympics next year. It's our sole target at the moment and all of us are up for the challenge. Hopefully, we will become a much better side once we play our first match in Tokyo," he said.

Lausanne, Mar 30: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday announced that the Tokyo Olympics 2020 will be 'celebrated' from July 23 to August 8 next year while the Paralympics Games will be held from August 24 to September 5, 2021.
"The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympics Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Government of Japan today agreed on new dates for the games of the XXXII Olympiad, in 2021. The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be celebrated from 23 July to 8 August 2021. They also agreed on new dates for the Paralympic Games, which will be celebrated from 24 August until 5 September 2021," the IOC said in a statement.
Earlier, the Tokyo Olympic Games were slated to be held from July 24 to August 9, while the Paralympic Games were scheduled to be held from August 25 to September 6. However, the coronavirus pandemic forced the postponement of the event.
IOC said the new dates are 'exactly one year' after those originally planned, giving the health authorities and all involved in the organisation of the games maximum time to deal with the constantly changing landscape caused by the coronavirus.
"These new dates give the health authorities and all involved in the organisation of the Games the maximum time to deal with the constantly changing landscape and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic," the statement read.
"The new dates, exactly one year after those originally planned for 2020 (Olympic Games: 24 July to 9 August 2020 and Paralympic Games: 25 August to 6 September 2020), also have the added benefit that any disruption that the postponement will cause to the international sports calendar can be kept to a minimum, in the interests of the athletes and the IFs. Additionally, they will provide sufficient time to finish the qualification process. The same heat mitigation measures as planned for 2020 will be implemented," it added.
The IOC president Thomas Bach thanked all the International Federations (IF) for their support.
"I want to thank the International Federations for their unanimous support and the Continental Associations of National Olympic Committees for the great partnership and their support in the consultation process over the last few days. I would also like to thank the IOC Athletes' Commission, with whom we have been in constant contact," Bach said in a statement.
"With this announcement, I am confident that, working together with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Japanese Government, and all our stakeholders, we can master this unprecedented challenge. Humankind currently finds itself in a dark tunnel. These Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 can be a light at the end of this tunnel," he added.
IPC president Andrew Parsons said the new dates will provide certainty to the athletes.
"It is fantastic news that we could find new dates so quickly for the Tokyo 2020 Games. The new dates provide certainty for the athletes, reassurance for the stakeholders and something to look forward to for the whole world. When the Paralympic Games do take place in Tokyo next year, they will be an extra-special display of humanity uniting as one, a global celebration of human resilience and a sensational showcase of sport," Parsons said.
"With the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games 512 days away, the priority for all those involved in the Paralympic Movement must be to focus on staying safe with their friends and family during this unprecedented and difficult time," he added.
