Yadgir, May 9: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Textiles Smriti Irani took a dig at AICC president Rahul Gandhi for his statement that he would become Prime Minister if his party won the 2019 elections and said: “Rahul [Gandhi]’s doubtful statement itself shows how confident he is of winning the elections.”
She was addressing a BJP rally at the Vidya Mangala Bhavan in Yadgir and sought votes for the party candidate in Yadgir Venkatareddy Mudnal on Tuesday.
Ms. Irani, who particularly attacked Mr. Gandhi for his election speeches in the State, asked: “How can a doubtful person (Mr. Gandhi) who didn’t have confidence in his own future bring about a bright future for the country?”
Calling the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a remote-controlled Prime Minister, she said: “We removed a remote-controlled Prime Minister in 2014 because of you. Now, it is time again come to remove a remote-controlled MLA (A.B. Malaakaraddi) from Yadgir. Thus, you have to vote solidly for the BJP to fulfil this dream.”
About the party’s programmes for Karnataka once it comes to power under the leadership of B.S. Yeddyurappa, the Union Minister said that Rs. 10,000 crore will be earmarked to bring in new schemes for women empowerment.
Houses for Dalits would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 8,500 crore and at the same time, Rs. 7,500 crore will be spent for constructing houses for other backward classes, she added.
She appealed to the voters to root out the “Seeda Rupayya” government and make Karnataka corruption free.
Mr. Venkatareddy Mudnal said that voters should elect him for the development of the constituency as more than 80 villages still did not have drinking water despite sitting MLA [A.B. Malaakaraddi] being elected five times from the constituency.
Chandrashekhar Gowda Maganur, district president of the BJP, Khandappa Dasan, Lalitha Anpur, Veena Modi, Sharanareddy Badiyal and others were present.
