Japanese student gang-raped in Bihar's Gaya, 2 arrested

Gaya/Kolkata, Jan 3: In another shameful incident, a Japanese girl was allegedly confined and raped by two persons in Bihar's Gaya.

The accused were arrested on Friday by a joint team of Kolkata and Gaya Police.

"A joint team of Kolkata and Gaya Police arrested two brothers -- Zahir and Shahid -- from their house in Taro village under Fatehpur police station of Gaya district for confining and raping a Japanese girl," said Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaya, Nishant Kumar Tiwari.

After contacting the Japanese consulate, the girl had lodged an FIR at Park Street police station in Kolkata that the duo along with a few of their accomplices had confined her since November 26 and gang-raped her, he said.

According to police, the girl was befriended by one Wasim Khan on November 20 in Kolkata who spoke Japanese and with whom she went to Gaya.

"Once there, Wasim molested her and took Rs 76,000 from her bank account before handing her over to the duo (Zahir and Shahid). There (Gaya), the brothers confined her till the end of December and repeatedly gang-raped her," said Special CP (Crime) of Kolkata Police, Pallab Kanti Ghosh.

Later, they put the girl on a bus bound for Varanasi where she got in touch with her friends and contacted the Japanese consulate in Kolkata, Ghosh said.

After returning to Kolkata on December 26, she lodged the FIR following which Wasim was arrested. Acting on information collected from him during interrogation, a Kolkata Police team went to Gaya and arrested the duo and brought them to Kolkata.

The two brothers were arrested on charges of rape and cheating the Japanese girl, the Gaya SSP added.

Kozhikode, Jul 20: A 17-year old boy died of head injuries while trying to protect his mother from being assaulted by his drunk father here, police said on Sunday.

The youngster suffered the fatal injury after his head hit against the door when his father shoved him at their home on Saturday. Venu, had come home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his wife and started beating her up, they said.

On seeing this, Alan tried to intervene. Though the boy was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved, they added. Venu was arrested and a case has been registered.

Gonda, Apr 9: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

As per information, Soni's wife had gone to her parents' place and was stuck there due to the lockdown and he was missing her due to which he committed suicide, Inspector Alok Rao said.

A probe is on in the mater, he said.

Hyderabad, Mar 28: Seven labourers from Karnataka were killed and four injured when the van in which they were travelling was hit by a truck near Pedda Golconda on the outskirts of the city late on Friday night, police said.

The deceased included two children. Of the 31 workers in the van, five died on the spot and two while undergoing treatment at a hospital, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic Vishwa Prasad said.
Four others were hospitalised and the condition of one of them is critical, he said, adding the other workers in the van escaped with minor injuries.

The workers were on their way back to their home town Raichur in Karnataka as the road project they were working in at Suryapet here was stalled due to the lockdown, Prasad said.

He said initital investigations revealed that the mango laden truck, which was on its way to Gujarat, was overspeeding.
