Justice Kemal Pasha sheds light on the role of Quran in legal system

Riyadh: "Quran is not just for recitation; we should read, understand and practise it so that we can overcome all the conflicts and confusions in our daily lives; unfortunately, most of our people confine it to only for reading without actually grasping its spirit...,"Justice Kemal Pasha, Rtd Justice of Kerala High Court, opined.

He was addressing the audience on the topic "The Role of Quran in the Legal System", organized by Indian Islahi Center on last Saturday at Batha in Riyadh.

"Our people are busy with magnifying the trivial things & ignoring the important matters that  relates to our community in particular & the society in general; that's the reason why, we are always blamed for being away from the main stream & are made responsible for negative happenings occured in the society as a whole; this should not be the case..." he voiced. He also recalled some of the cases of trivial nature brought before the High court by muslim sects when he was the justice of the High court.

Talking on the topic, he said-"Quran has contributed a lot in legal system; fair justice to all, irrespective of religion, caste or community, is the spirit of Quran. He cited the example of law of inheritance (succession) in Islam to be best laws that are considered to be key part of Shari'a; Quran provides for inheritance from a deceased person's property to his legal heirs; the decedent's estate gets distributed according to the relationship of his legal heirs like mother, father, sons, daughters etc. These rules are clearly detailed in Quran...".

Continuing his talks, he  articulated that the 2nd Khalifah hazrath Umar bin Khattab was the first & foremost judge of the world; he (Umar) showed to the world the best model of administration of justice when a drunkard was brought before him for the prosecution; the way he administered the justice, while dealing with the case, was really amazing & highly esteemed one.

The Justice called upon the muslims to spread the message of peace & harmony enshrined in Quran & opined that Surah Al-Kafiroon in Quran is the best Surah that gives for its followers to keep their feet firm on their Religion (Islam) while handing comforting formula for non-muslims to practise their religion-"Your Religion is yours & my Religion is mine".

He reiterated that we need to propagate the clear words of Quran in its entirety to others so as to enable to get rid of misconceptions & misunderstandings. Sometimes, we ourselves provide unnecessary food for others to invite criticisms for our wrong actions. Triple Talaq is the best example in this regard.

He expressed his appreciation towards the works of Islahi movements in spreading & reaching the messages of Quran out to all.

He also said that India is a country with unity in diversity & Indian constitution is the mixture of the essences of Quran, Bhagvath Geetha, Bible, Gurugranth Saheb; it belongs to all people of India not to restrict to any religion or section of people. Peace, harmony & co-existence are the gists of India that needs to be upheld; at present situation in India,  muslims are more heavied to underline & uphold the fabrics of secularism laid down in our constitution...".

"It's our duty to shoulder the socio-secular filament. More than 60% of sacrifice for the independence of our country was done by muslims in India as it is recorded clearly in India Gate. We have great responsibilities to maintain the secular fabrics of our country..", he recapitulated.

Abdul Jalal, President of Indian Islahi Center, Riyadh, presided over the occasion. Adv. Jaleel, Saaduddeen Swalahi & others were present on the dais.  The plaque of "LEARN THE QURAN" for coming exam session was released by Justice Kemal Pasha.

A strong condemnation over the Pulwama terror attacks on CRPF convoy in Kashmir were expressed on the occasion.

Dubai: There aren’t that many job vacancies right now – but be prepared for a 15-20 per cent cut in salary expectations even for those positions that are still open. Businesses in the UAE are definitely not in a generous mood when it comes to hiring, with salary cuts now part of the new normal.

And they are definitely not willing to take on new hires without extracting some cost benefit from them. “We have seen major [salary] cuts across the board in hospitality, real estate, professional services and in retail,” said Vijay Gandhi, regional head at Korn Ferry Digital, the recruitment consultancy.

“And once the headcount correction is complete in [the local] financial services and energy sector, we may see more cuts in rewards and benefits in these categories as well.”

The salary cuts are slowly extending their way into the healthcare sector as well – just about every non-COVID-19 facing medical category is coming across cuts in the number of working hours and, by extension, their take home packages.

By end of June, more businesses and sectors in the UAE will have a better understanding of their short-term revenue prospects. By then, they will also have a better reading on what their staff strength should be – and whether there should be more trimming of the workforce. Or whether they should consider a few hires as well.

A long summer
So, realistically, it could be September before such decisions need to be taken. The coming weeks will then prove to be laden with anxiety for those who are expecting to land a job option after being laid off at their current employers.

There are multiple instances of recruitment decisions having been made in February/March, and then the companies rescinding those offers to the chosen candidates citing the business uncertainty.

“The decision to hire is taking longer – so job creation is now 4-6 weeks from interview and selection compared to 4-6 days in the past,” said Gandhi.

The lucky ones
Recently, free zones and other entities had made it easier for personnel on the visa of one entity being able to smoothly transfer to another if they are likely to be made redundant. “We are seeing more flexibility being offered by the authorities given the circumstances, and the visa transfer process is happening,” said Gandhi.

“But in the vast majority of cases, businesses are going to wait and watch before normal hiring activity starts. Organizations will look to hire from September.”

A few hires are still happening
Even in the business turmoil set off by COVID-19, a few categories are still offering jobs. At the entry level, logistics services personnel and drivers with experience remain in demand.

Not just “routine jobs, there have been confirmations in more technical roles such as procurement and operations in healthcare and e-commerce,” said Gandhi. “Employers should keep an eye for good talent and have the talent acquisition team actively looking for good profiles.

“As such, organizations are not only looking at “right sizing” in numbers but also “future proofing” on what kind of skilled talent will help them in the post-COVID-19 world.”

But for the candidates, the present will be about waiting around for the call to come.

Dubai, Jan 12: Saudi Arabian oil giant Aramco announced Sunday that its initial public offering raised a record $29.4 billion, a figure higher than previously announced, after the company used a so-called "greenshoe option" to sell millions more shares to meet investor demand.

The company said that the sale of an additional 450 million shares took place during the initial public offering process.

The oil and gas company, which is majority owned by the state, began publicly trading on the local Saudi Tadawul exchange on December 11. It hit hit upwards of $10 a share on the second day of trading. This gave Aramco a market capitalization of $2 trillion, making it comfortably the world's most valuable company.

Aramco's additional sales mean the company has publicly floated 1.7% of its shares. It's IPO, even before the added sales, was the world's largest ever.

The shares sold in the over-allotment option "had been allocated to investors during the book-building process and therefore, no additional shares are being offered into the market today," Aramco said.

Company shares traded down on Sunday, dipping to around 34.7 riyals, or $9.25 a share, amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf between Iran and the United States. Aramco was a target of rising tensions over the summer when a missile and drone attack, which Saudi Arabia and the US blame on Iran, temporarily halved its production.

Sunday's trading figures value Aramco at $1.85 trillion, still well ahead of Apple, the second largest company in the world after Aramco, but below the $2 trillion mark sought by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.
