Kamal Haasan meets Rajinikanth, says calling on people he likes

Chennai, Feb 18: Days ahead of taking the political plunge, veteran film star Kamal Haasan met superstar Rajinikanth today and said he is calling on those "whom I like" before the formal launch of his party on February 21. Both the actors, who command a huge fan following, have announced they will enter politics. Rajinikanth said he prayed for "divine blessings" to be bestowed on his friend Haasan and wished him success in his political endeavours.

Rajinikanth said he and Hassan had different styles in cinema, a possible indication that they may go separate ways in politics too. Haasan had said a few days ago that an alliance between the two was unlikely if Rajinikanth's colour was "saffron", an apparent reference to the BJP.

Rajinikanth has good equations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to reporters after meeting Rajinikanth at his Poes Garden residence here, Haasan said he had called on the screen idol as he was meeting "those whom I like" ahead of the launch of his political party.

He has so far met chief ministers of Kerala and Delhi-- Pinarayi Vijayan and Arvind Kejriwal-- besides former chief election commissioner T N Seshan and veteran state CPI leader P Nallakannu. "When I decided to take the (political) journey, I had informed him (Rajinikanth). Now, before leaving for the journey, I came to inform those whom I like," Haasan said about the meeting. "This is not a political meeting but a friendly one.

Friendship was dominant (at the meeting)," he added. Haasan declined to reveal what exactly transpired at the meeting. Later, Rajinikanth told reporters that Haasan invited him for the latter's "political journey," apparently meaning the launch of the actor's political party. "My friend Kamal has come to politics, not for money or fame, but has come to do good for the people of Tamil Nadu and take care of them. I pray to God for his blessings (on Haasan).

I wish him success," he said. Rajinikanth, who has also said he would join politics, indicated the style of working of the two contemporaries could be different although public service was their common goal. "Even in cinema, our styles are different... so will it be in politics... but to do good for people is the main thing (for both of them)," Rajinikanth said.

The decision of the two top Tamil film stars to enter politics comes against the backdrop of a perceived vacuum in Tamil Nadu politics after the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2016. The perception gained further currency due to the indifferent health of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. The 93-year-old leader is not actively involved in politics for over a year now.

Ever since the two declared they would enter politics, there has been a buzz about whether they would come together. While Haasan recently wrote in a weekly that he and Rajinikanth needed to contemplate if it was necessary for them to join hands and face elections, the latter said only time will tell whether such a thing would happen.

Haasan will address a string of meetings and unveil his party flag at Madurai on February 21, marking the commencement of his political journey. He will address public meetings at Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Manamadurai and Paramakudi that day.

Washington, Jul 16: Actor Chris Evans, better known as 'Captain America', made a six-year-old boy's day by sending him a personalised video message lauding his heroic act of saving his younger sister from a dog attack.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the aunt of the young boy (Bridger Walker from Cheyenne) posted on Instagram the story of how the boy saved his sister on July 9 and was horribly injured in the process.

She shared the story on the photo-sharing platform on Sunday and also posted few photos featuring the brother-sister duo as well as pictures of the injuries on Walker's face.

"After receiving 90 stitches (give or take) from a skilled plastic surgeon, he's finally resting at home," wrote the aunt (Nikki Walker).
"We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks," she added.

Moved by the young boy's story, Evans made a direct video message appreciating the boy for what he did, and how he is no less than a superhero.

He also promised to send the young kid an authentic 'Captain America' shield as a reward for his selfless, heroic act.

Evans' video message to the young boy was shared by the aunt on her Instagram profile.
In the video, Evans is saying, "Pal, you're a hero, what you did was so brave, so selfless -- your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother.

Your parents must be so proud of you," Evans said in a video message that the family shared Wednesday. "Keep being the man you are, we need people like you. Hang in there, I know recovery might be tough, but based on what I've seen, I don't think there's much that can slow you down."

Towards the end, the 39-year-old actor told the boy he was sending the 'Captain America' shield to him, as the world needs more bravehearts like the little boy.

Washington, Jun 11: Music maestro AR Rahman has joined the international film 'No Land's Man' as co-producer and composer.

Helmed by renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the upcoming movie has Indian thespian Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Australian theatre actor Megan Mitchell, and Bangladeshi musician and actor Tahsan Rahman Khan in pivotal roles.

"Time always gives birth to new worlds, new ideals. The newborn world has new challenges and new stories to tell. This is one such story," Variety quoted Rahman as saying.

The movie chronicles the life of a South Asian, whose journey gets complicated when he meets an Australian woman in the U.S.

The film, shot in the U.S., Australia and India, is predominantly in English with some dialogue in Hindi and Urdu.

'Sacred Games' actor, Siddique said: "The filming experience for this project was challenging but a fulfilling one. AR Rahman's brilliance will definitely make the film richer."

"Farooki and I first spoke about 'No Land's Man' at Film Bazaar in 2014. Between then and now, the film has become even more relevant as it looks at what it means to be a vulnerable person in a racially-divided world," producer Srihari Sathe said.

'No Land's Man' won the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and Asia Pacific Screen Awards' Script Development fund in 2014. It was part of the Asian Project Market at Busan and was chosen as the best project at India's Film Bazaar the same year.

Earlier in January, Siddiqui posted multiple pictures on Instagram with the team of the flick, marking the schedule wrap in New York and Sydney for 'No Land's Man.'

He also captioned the post as: "Wonderful experience with the most energetic team."
