Kapil Sharma’s debut as the king of polygamy is funny but has no logic whatsoever!

September 25, 2015

kapilMumbai, Sep 25: The world of small screen has given some big stars to Bollywood. In fact, king of romance, Shah Rukh Khan started his career from TV shows. While in recent times a lot of TV stars have tried their hands with films and failed, it is popular comedian Kapil Sharma’s first shot at the glitzy world of films. Kapil Sharma is making his debut in films with the director duo Abbas Mustan’s Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. With Varun Sharma, Elli Avram and Arbaaz Khan as supporting cast, will Kapil leave a lasting impression as an actor? Lets check out the review!

What’s it about:

Though the basic story of the film is not new to us, there is a lot happening in the film thanks to truckload of characters. I hope I don’t miss anything important. Here it goes. Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan (Kapil) is a man troubled by the ill fate of three marriages. Due to some unfortunate and often illogical turn of events, our hero finds himself in situations that forces him to marry. And to help him hide his other marriages from his wives, he takes help of his lawyer friend Karan (Varun Sharma). And just when you thought that our hero has enough problems on his plate to deal with, he also has a girlfriend Deepika (Elli Avram) whom he truly loves and wants to marry. What will happen now? How can anyone possibly get out of this mess unscathed? Add a deaf don cum brother in law, estranged parents, a typical dim witted bai and an ever doubting future father in law into the equation, and you get heady mix of confusion and fun called Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon.

What’s good:

The biggest merit of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon lies in the fact that it keeps you entertained. Sure, it might seem a little over the top and at times juvenile, but the film thankfully doesn’t bore you, which is a huge plus point. Even though the basic plot is same as Govinda’s Sajjan Chale Sasural, there are enough characters and loads of situational comedy that will help you overlook the story’s lack of novelty. Kapil Sharma stands out in his debut flick, playing the part of a man who, day in day out, lives in the tension of managing three wives. His nervous comic timing and his ability to make a serious situation hilarious benefits the film hugely. While you secretly pity at Kapil’s state, one just can’t help but chuckle at his plight. Kapil, even, shines in the dramatic scenes and shows great promise as an actor. Varun Sharma does justice to his role of Kapil’s cheeky lawyer friend, who gets him out of troubles. His jokes about science and Newton’s laws infuses laughter. Even though he is playing a stereotypical role of a deaf person of Bollywood standards, Arbaaz Khan’s antics and his dialogues are entertaining. Scenes like Kapil’s attempts to hide from the prying eyes of Eli’s father in a mall, where all his three wives are out for shopping are hilarious and outstanding. Manjari Fadnis’ repetitive one liner ‘Bhagwan Sabko Tumhare Jaisa Pati De’ makes you enjoy the underlined pun in it.

What’s bad:

While the comedy is good and the makers have kept the proceedings entertaining, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon is far from perfect. One major flaws of the film is the complete lack of logic from start to finish. How can anyone married to three women, living in the same building, manage to escape for so long without being caught? And how can these wives be so dumb that even after becoming friends with each other, they never come to know the truth about their husbands ( or rather husband)? And how does Kapil’s lawyer friend Varun doesn’t know that polygamy is illegal in India? The start of the film, where it is shown how Kapil gets married thrice, is so illogical and juvenile that I felt like the makers are questioning the intelligence of the audience. The climax of the film is so laughable and dumb that you can’t help but feel that the makers are actually glorifying polygamy. After Kapil calls his three marriages as “hadsa” and convinces that his wives, his parents and the society that he is innocent, by delivering an utterly unconvincing speech, Eli Evram says this,” Jis aadmi ne hadso se pyaar kiya, us aadmi ke pyaar ko me ek hadsa nahi hone doongi.” And I stood up and gave a standing ovation to this dialogue which sums up the level of idiotic-ness of this climax. And, oh please don’t get me started about Elli Avram’s acting.

What to do:

If you are looking for having a few laughs at the cinemas this week, and have the stomach to digest a dumb comedy, then Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon is for you! Watch it for Kapil Sharma’s impressive debut!

Mumbai, Jun 9: Actor Sonu Sood, who has been arranging transport for migrant workers stranded in Mumbai and has faced criticism from the Shiv Sena for "enacting a political script written by BJP", was stopped outside the Bandra Terminus in Mumbai by police from meeting labourers.

A Mumbai Police official said the actor was stopped by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) when he reached the station on Monday night to meet some labourers, and added that they have not received any complaint so far in this connection.

The migrant labourers were supposed to take the Shramik Special train from Bandra Terminus to Uttar Pradesh.

Mumbai's Nirmal Nagar police station's senior inspector Shashikant Bhandare told news agency PTI that "The actor was stopped by the RPF, not by us. He wanted to meet labourers who were going to their native place. We have not received any complaint regarding this till now."

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday wondered whether the BJP propped up Sonu Sood to "offer help" to migrant workers from north India stranded in Maharashtra amidst the lockdown, with the political motive to show the Uddhav Thackeray government in poor light.

In his weekly column 'Rokhthok' in Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana', Sanjay Raut questioned the sudden rise of "Mahatma" Sood on the social scene of Maharashtra during the lockdown.

Mr Raut also referred to an alleged "sting operation" against Sonu Sood ahead of the 2019 general elections, saying he had agreed to promote the BJP-led government at various platforms through his official social media accounts.

However, later that day Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray lauded Sonu Sood's initiative to arrange buses for stranded migrant workers.

The actor met Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's residence 'Matoshree' in suburban Bandra on Sunday night.

On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh backed Sonu Sood for his work for stranded migrant workers, and questioned the Maharashtra government's criticism of the actor.

Mumbai, Aug 6: Taking over the case of the controversial death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the CBI on Thursday registered a case naming six persons, including his actress-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family members.

Besides Rhea, others named in the FIR are her family members Indrajit Chakraborty, Sandya Chakraborty and Showik Chakraborty as well as his house manager Samuel Miranda and the actress' manager and publicist Shruti Modi.

The registration of the case came a day after the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has asked the CBI to take over the case following a reference from the Bihar government.

The entry of the CBI will not be to the liking of Maharashtra government, as it has already raised objection to the move, saying Bihar does not have any jurisdiction for a probe, as the incident happened in Mumbai.

The CBI has invoked charges related to criminal conspiracy, abetment of suicide, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement, theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation against those named in the FIR.

The case will be probed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Superintendent of Police Nupur Prasad. DIG Gagandeep Gambhir and Joint Director Manoj Shashidhar will supervise the investigations.

The CBI FIR is based on a case registered by Patna Police on a complaint filed by the actor's father Krishna Kishore Singh, who accused Rhea and others of abetting Sushant's suicide and misappropriating his assets. The Patna Police had invoked sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and abetment to suicide among others.

The 34-year-old actor hailing from Bihar, known for his stellar performance in Kai Poche and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story among others, died by suicide on June 14 in his apartment in Bandra in Mumbai on June 14. Mumbai Police has registered a case and had been investigating various angles when Sushant's father also registered a case in Patna against Rhea and others.

The case ran into controversy as Mumbai Police and the state government questioned the locus standi of their Patna counterparts with one of the senior Bihar Police officers who landed in Mumbai was sent to quarantine by state authorities.

Sushant's death had raised shackles with several actors and others questioning the nepotism in Bollywood after it emerged that he was under depression as he was not getting his due in the film industry.

It also assumed political colours with a section alleging that top Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's son Aditya Thackeray, also a Minister, has links to the incident. Aditya has denied any links.

BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, had demanded CBI inquiry in the case.

The Bihar government acted fast in referring the case to the CBI, as the state was going to Assembly elections later this year and there was anguish among people over the state.

So far, Mumbai Police have recorded statements of 56 people, including Rajput's sisters, Rhea, and others from the film industry, after registering an Accidental Death Report (ADR).

The Enforcement Directorate has earlier registered a money laundering case against Rhea and others on the basis of the FIR filed by Patna Police. The agency on Thursday quizzed Miranda while it summoned Rhea for questioning on Friday.

Earlier, Rhea had approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case registered by Patna Police to Maharashtra. In her plea, she had said that she was in a live-in relationship with Sushant from a year up till June 8 when the petitioner had temporarily shifted to her own residence in Mumbai. She has been in deep trauma due the death of the actor and moreover getting rape and death threats.
