Kareena Kapoor is fond of my designs: Faraz Manan

April 22, 2014

Kareena_Kapoor_FondNew Delhi, Apr 22: Renowned Pakistani designer Faraz Manan says Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor, who is the brand ambassador of his lawn collection, is fond of his royal ethnic attires and even dons them at certain occasions. Kareena, 33, is the face of his latest Crescent Lawn Collection, which consists of digital lawn floral prints with embellished necklines presenting an embroidered look to the outfits.

"Kareena likes it (my collection). She wears it at home also. She is someone who really needs to like something before wearing it. She is currently like a modern Nawab. She is married to a nawab and it's all about a whole new approach. I like designing for Nawabi culture," Faraz, who was in the capital for M B Jewellers and Sons fashion show said.

"Nawabs play polo and sort of have a modern approach to life. So my collection favours that. Kareena is not just famous here. People know her in Pakistan and Dubai. So it's good," he added.

Faraz, who is popular in Pakistan for his couture, bridal wear, luxury pret, and lawn, has been a frequent visitor to the country as Kareens's elder sister Karisma Kapoor was his campaign's brand ambassador for three years.

"I have been here (India) before. I come here to visit my friends and also for my campaigns. I do my shoots sometimes in Jaipur, Bombay and Delhi. The appreciation we get every time we come here is great," he said.

Apart from the Kapoor sisters, 'Aashiqui 2' star Aditya Roy Kapoor too has been associated with his collection, having walked the ramp as the showstopper for his formal couture

designs last year. He feels that his collections have been giving a healthy competition to the Indian designers. However, Faraz insists

that competition is not on his mind.

"They can and it has been giving a healthy competition. A a lot of my friends in India have been appreciating collection," he said.

"There are few designers whose work I like and vice-versa. It can be a healthy competition but not a competition as such," he added . The designer said fashion here gives more prominence to colours and designs as compared to Pakistan, where fabric quality is of prime concern.

"There are lot of similarities in terms of customs, culture except for the few differences. Indians are more concerned about colour and construction of the outfit. Pakistan's fashion is more about the fabric quality," he said.

For him, fashion has attained a strong presence in the markets of Pakistan as it has survived on its own. "Fashion is booming in Pakistan. That is one industry which has survived on its own. People have a flair for different collections," he said.

Faraz, who hails from Lahore, was intrigued by art ever since his childhood. Drawing inspiration from his designer parents, he stepped into the creative world ten-years ago

without having any formal training in fashion.

"No. (I haven't taken any courses in fashion). It is my pure creativity and love for artistry that has taken me towards designing. It has been 10 years. It happened because I was into art and painting since my childhood. I have picked it from my mother. Although I have studied economics, I ventured into this as I enjoyed the whole experience," he said.

Mumbai, Mar 7: A 'farm-to-fork' themed restaurant 'He-Man' situated on National Highway in Haryana's Karnal -- franchised by veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra -- has been sealed for building law violations, officials said on Saturday.

The Karnal Municipal Corporation sealed the franchise outlet on Friday for not furnishing the change of land use (CLU) certificate and illegal constructions, an official said.

The restaurant is located on National Highway 44 on the outskirts of Karnal, some 150 km from here.

The franchise was given to Delhi-based businessman Pramod Kumar.

"After the success of my restaurant Garam Dharam Dhaba, I am now announcing a farm-to- fork themed restaurant 'He-Man'," Dharmendra had announced on Instagram after its launch on Valentine's Day.

Karnal Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said the action was initiated as the restaurant owner did not respond to MC notice on the issue.

Los Angeles, Jul 14: US officials on Monday found the body of "Glee" actress Naya Rivera in the Californian lake where she drowned last week during a boat trip with her four-year-old son.

Rivera's body was retrieved and an initial examination found no evidence of foul play or suicide, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub told a press conference.

"We are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera," said Ayub, pointing to the location, appearance, clothing and condition of the body.

Her body was being taken to a medical examiner's office for a full autopsy and confirmation of her identity from dental records, though no other missing persons have been reported at Lake Piru, he added.

Rivera, 33, is believed to have accidentally drowned after renting the boat with her young son at the camping and recreational hotspot around an hour's drive northwest of Los Angeles.

She vanished on Wednesday afternoon, and a massive search involving divers, patrol boats and helicopters was launched after her sleeping son was spotted drifting alone in a boat on the lake.

The son later told investigators that Rivera had helped him into the boat before "he looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water," said the sheriff.

Ayub pointed to the lake's strong currents as a possible cause of a fatal accident.

"The idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting -- it was unanchored -- and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself," he said.

The lake has been closed to the public since Wednesday, with around 100 personnel, including the US Coast Guard and rescuers from neighboring counties, joining the search.

Search teams used footage from video messaging calls Rivera made from the boat before her disappearance, as well as interviews with her son, to scour portions of the lake bed for her remains over six days, with no success.

"We believe she was concealed within some of the shrubbery on the floor bed of the lake" before eventually floating to the surface due to natural decomposition, said Ayyub.

With less than one foot (30 centimeters) of visibility underwater in daylight, the recovery operation was a "complex search effort" even with use of sonar equipment, he said.

Rivera was best known for her role as high school cheerleader Santana Lopez in "Glee."

She starred for six seasons in the wildly popular musical television series set in a US high school that ended in 2015.

The "Glee" cast has been struck by tragedy before.

Actor Mark Salling took his own life in 2018, weeks before being sentenced for possession of child pornography.

Canadian castmate Cory Monteith died in July 2013 of an overdose of drugs and alcohol.

Mumbai, May 12: Superstar Salman Khan on Tuesday released his latest romantic single "Tere Bina" featuring Jacqueline Fernandez while in quarantine at his Panvel farm house.

The actor, along with close family and friends from the industry, including Iulia Vantur, Waluscha De Sousa, is living in the farm house. This is the second song Salman has released amid the coronavirus pandemic, after "Pyaar Karona."

"About seven weeks ago, when we came to the farm, we didn't know we will be here under a lockdown. So we wanted to do things to keep ourselves busy. That's when we decided to do these songs. We launched 'Pyaar Karona' and now, we are launching 'Tere Bina'," Salman said in a statement.

The song, sung and directed by Salman, is composed by his friend Ajay Bhatia and written by Shab bir Ahmed.

The actor said he had the song "Tere Bina" with him for quite a while but because it wasn't fitting into any of his film, he decided to release it now.

Jacqueline said she didn't think they would be able to shoot the song, which they finished in four days of evening shoots, with such limitations.

"We are used to shooting songs on a large stage with grand production costs. There are costumes, hair, make up. All of a sudden, we find ourselves with a team of three people. For the first time, I was checking lighting and moving props around. It was a great experience and it taught us how to make the most of what we have," she said.

Salman recently sent out food packets and ration from his farm house to those affected by the lockdown.
