Karnataka CM convenes informal Cabinet meeting on Friday

Bengaluru, May 23: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, rattled with the poll debacle in the Lok Sabha elections after coalition partners finished with a poor result batting just one seat apiece in the Lok Sabha elections for which counting was taken up today, had convened an informal Cabinet meeting here on Friday.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister, who had a meeting with the Cabinet ministers, of the JD(S) on Thursday, had also met his father H D Deve Gowda, who is also the JD(S) national president, and reportedly discussed about the party matters in the backdrop of the reversal it suffered in the Lok Sabha elections.

The cabinet is likely to take stock of the political developments that had led to the poor show of the coalition partners in the Lok Sabha elections the sources added.

United Marine Products receives MPEDA best exporter award

United Marine Products, Karnataka and Goa has been awarded the MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) best exporter award for outstanding export performance of 2017-18 and second best exporter of 2018-19 from the govt of India under the category "Fishmeal, Fish oil and Allied products." held at Grand Hyatt, LuLu convention center, Kochi.

The award was conferred in the presence of Central Minister for state, commerce and Industry Mr Som Parkash and Honourable minister for fisheries, govt of Kerala Mercy kutty Amma. Mr Muhammad Sameer, Managing Partner, received the award.

Lockdown will not be extended further in Bengaluru: R Ashoka

Bengaluru, Jul 18: Karnataka minister R Ashoka on Friday said that the COVID-19 lockdown will not be extended further in Bengaluru.

While commenting on the COVID-19 lockdown extension R Ashoka said, "We have taken expert opinion, and the lockdown will not be extended. It will end on July 22."

Earlier today, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor, M Goutham Kumar called for an extension of lockdown in the city for one more week due to rise in the COVID-19 cases. "It will be better if we get more time to tackle COVID-19 cases. We wish for the extension of lockdown for one more week. We have given the proposal to the government," said Kumar.

Lockdown had been imposed in the city for seven days with effect from 8 pm on July 14 till 5 am on July 22 to curb the further spread of COVID-19.

As many as 3,693 new COVID-19 positive cases and 115 deaths have been reported in Karnataka on Friday, the State Health Department said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 55,115 including 33,205 active cases. While there are 20,757 recoveries, the death toll stands at 1,147.
