Kasaragod girl makes country proud

Kasaragod, Jan 5: Yashmitha, a class XI student of Sri Annapoorneswari Higher Secondary School at Agalpadi, near Badiadukka here, brought laurels for the nation by winning the Asian Junior Throwball Championship held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The 16-year-old Yashmitha, hailing from the backward Marathi community, was accorded warm reception as she arrived at the railway station here and was greeted by Kumbadaje grama panchayat members along with her relatives.

Four Malayalis

She was among the four members chosen for the prestigious event from the State with three others hailing from Ernakulam. The remaining team members hailed from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, she said.

On reaching Delhi on December 21, the team members had extensive training before embarking for Kuala Lumpur to take part in the competition in which the Indian girls beat Pakistani rivals in nail-biting 25-24 score match held on December 28.

Yashmita was taken in an open jeep here on Wednesday as part of the felicitation.

United Marine Products, Karnataka and Goa has been awarded the MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) best exporter award for outstanding export performance of 2017-18 and second best exporter of 2018-19 from the govt of India under the category   "Fishmeal, Fish oil and Allied products." held at Grand Hyatt, LuLu convention center, Kochi.
 
The award was conferred in the presence of Central Minister for state, commerce and Industry Mr Som Parkash and Honourable minister for fisheries, govt of Kerala Mercy kutty Amma. Mr Muhammad Sameer, Managing Partner, received the award.

Mangaluru, June 14: The management of Barakah International School and College has announced to waive off 33% of tuition fee in order to lessen the burden on parents who are undergoing financial crisis due to covid lockdown. 

This decision was taken after a series of virtual meetings with the Managing Director, Academic Director, Principal, Manager and PRO.

“While the school needs to continue to meet all the commitments and responsibilities towards the staff salaries, software, networking, etc, we fully understand that in the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, job loss, reduction in salaries, general hardships of the self-employed businesses and the slowdown in the economy,” sated a release issued by the school.

“We would support our parent fraternity pro-actively and at the same time continue to meet the high-quality standards of our teaching- learning process and infrastructure so it has been decided that 1/3 of the tuition fee to be waived off for 2020-21,” the release said.
