Kerala medical college bans jeans, noisy ornaments for girls

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 22: The Government Medical College in state capital Thiruvananthapuram has come under flak for issuing a dress code for girls prohibiting them from wearing jeans, leggings ornoisy ornaments'. In a circular issued on Thursday, the vice principal of the college has stated a set of rules in regards to the MBBS course to ensure regular attendance and the final internal marks.

jeansThe circular, at the bottom, points outdo's' anddont's' for both boys and girls, asking them to be dressed formally. While the boys have been ordered to maintain aneat and clean dress and appearance with formal dress and shoes', the women have been asked to wear formals which specifically meanchuridar or saree' and that their hair must beput up'. The circular also prohibits female students from wearingjeans, leggings or noisy ornaments.'

This is not the first instance of thedress code' menace having hit educational institutions in the state. A college in Kozhikode had banned girls from wearing jeans on campus earlier this year.

Female students, especially in the medical and engineering courses, have complained that it becomes a herculean task to manoeuvre themselves while clad in a saree or worrying about dupattas, especially during exams or in practicals where ease of movement is important.

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Taking note of the communally hateful messages, news and pictures in the wake of coronavirus, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxmi Prasad on Monday issued strict warning to people spreading such messages and news on local social media platforms.

The SP also confirmed that four cases under his jurisdiction have been registered for sending, forwarding messages with communal hate in the wake of coronavirus on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

He added the police department will not take any such messages, news, and images lightly which can potentially hurt the sentiments of the people of any community. He also added that those found guilty will be prosecuted under strict law and their gadgets, mobiles will be seized by the department.

Udupi, June 26: BJP leader K Raghavendra Kini has been appointed as the new Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) by Government of Karnataka.

A well-known businessman, Raghavendra Kini is also serving as the president of Kunjibettu Consumers’ Multipurpose Co-operative Union.

Along with him, the State Government has appointed Suma Naika, Praveen Kumar Shetty and Kishor Kumar as members of the Authority.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: As many as 11 more people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Karnataka, said the State's Health Department on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, 11 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 5 pm on April 28 to 5 pm on April 29.

"With this, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in the state has mounted to 534, of which 20 deaths have been reported and 215 people have recovered," added the statement.

Of 20 coronavirus patients who died, one death was due to the non-COVID cause, the statement further said.
