Kerala’s Pinarayi govt demands immediate ban on PFI; Modi govt yet to decide

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government has urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union government of India to immediately impose ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI).

Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, told media persons on Wednesday that the issue was discussed at the annual DGP meet held in Madhya Pradesh’s Tekanpur in January, where Kerala police chief Lokanath Behera gave a detailed presentation on the PFI’s growth and activities in the State.

The session was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior officials in the security establishment. “Kerala has pressed for a ban on the PFI and we are examining the case,” said Mr. Rijiju.

Mr. Behera listed four cases where members of the PFI were involved in criminal activities, said a senior Home Ministry official. The Centre will collect more facts and evidence about the activities of the outfit before declaring it an “unlawful association”, the official added.

“It has never happened in the past that activities of a particular organisation were discussed threadbare at a DGP meet. The PFI is under the scanner, but is not yet banned. On earlier occasions, organisations like SIMI (Students’ Islamic Movement of India) and Indian Mujahideen were discussed at DGP meets, but only after they were banned,” said the official.

The DGP meet is an annual affair organised by the Intelligence Bureau where issues concerning internal security are discussed.

The National Investigation Agency had last year sent a detailed report to the Home Ministry and mentioned four cases where cadres of the PFI had either been charge-sheeted or convicted.

The NIA said it examined nine cases where men and women converted to Islam and in at least four of them, the involvement of members of the PFI was established.

Pinarayi: This three way fight is too confusing. Let's join hands and finish them off. That will leave just the two of us. Then, Jo Jeeta Woh Sikandar
Modi: Brilliant idea, Lal Salaam!
Pinarayi: Hahahahaha Jai Sri Ram

Good decision if Kerala govt banning PFI. I dont know about other states. But in Kerala they involved in many terror activities and they were under probe. I mean their activities.  and it's not immediate ban mr.reporter. Their activities were suspicious and many proved. The probe started atleast two year ago

PFI is a national organisation. But in Karnataka, BJP blames Siddaramaiah for not banning PFI. But no BJP ruled states banned PFI. Modi govt also not ready to ban PFI... What the F***

You can't ban the PFI and curtail freedom for particular community without doing the same for other organizations, one of which has been banned in India thrice previously.

Belagavi, Feb 24: Almost a month after a soldier was reported missing following a trip to Gokak's Godchinamalaki falls, his wife and her lover - who was her car driver - were arrested in Belagavi for his murder.

Police said the accused, Prashant Patil, and two friends tried to throw Deepak Pattanadara, 32, off a cliff after slitting his throat. Deepak's wife, Anjali, had registered a missing case with police on February 4, saying her husband had gone on a trip with friends on January 28 and hadn't returned.

In a twist, Deepak's elder brother lodged a complaint at the same police station, alleging that Anjali was behind the disappearance.

Anjali and Prashant, both 26, were arrested on Saturday while Prashant's two friends are absconding. Deepak's decomposed body has been recovered.

Deepak, who was posted in Delhi and was on the verge of retirement after 14 years in the army, had suspected his wife's alleged affair, police said. He'd bought a car for Anjali in 2019, and since he was home only twice a year, he hired Prashant as the driver. Anjali and Prashant grew close but when Deepak asked Anjali about the affair, she denied it outright.

When Deepak came home during vacation, the duo planned to eliminate him, police said.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is facing major dissent within the party and the BJP MLAs held a meeting on Tuesday night at former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar's residence to discuss the functioning of Yediyurappa-led government, said BJP sources.

According to BJP sources, some of the unhappy BJP leaders and MLAs met last night at Shetter's place and expressed that they are not satisfied with Yediyurappa's leadership.

Last night's meeting shows that party leaders are looking to bring down Yediyurappa from the Chief Minister's post by sending a clear message to the high command that Yediyurappa is incapable of continuing as the CM, said BJP sources.

Other sources in BJP have also asserted that BJP leadership in Karnataka is looking for a "leader" who can lead the party in upcoming elections which is going to be held after three years. At this point of time, it's crucial for BJP to promote second-line leadership.

Meanwhile, a letter is being circulated in the BJP party forum and over social media against Chief Minister Yediyurappa's leadership.

It looks like the same team which is unhappy with Yediyurappa's leadership is trying to convey the same message to their high command. The letter which is being circulated says to be written by one of these leaders' groups against Yediyurappa and his son Vijayendra.

On this, Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy told media, "Maybe the letter is written by the same MLAs because after the expansion of Karnataka cabinet so many leaders from BJP were kept out."

"There is a lot of discontent among BJP MLAs that the ones who have toiled for the party day and night have been neglected from the cabinet expansion. This will definitely result in destabilisation in the government," said Eshwar Khandre, KPCC Working President.

Now party high command needs to look into Karnataka leadership to manage the government in the state.

"Now BJP leadership in Karnataka and Delhi need to look into the matter and need to solve the issue after cabinet expansion," said a BJP leader.
