KKMA distributes scholarships, student awards, dialysis and dream house amounts

Mangaluru, Jan 1: The Karnataka state committee of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association organized a programme to distribute student scholarships, student awards, and dialysis and dream house amounts on December 31 on the premises of AL Ehsan Masjid in the city.

Master Adam Ahil Farooq inaugurated the function with Quran recitation. KKMA Karnataka State Committee General Secretary Hussain Shafi welcomed the gathering.

S M Farooq, President, KKMA  Karnataka State Committee, in his president talk said from last 16 years KKMA granting scholarships to deserved students. The intention behind this is to help the students to reach higher positions. He motivated students by giving example of a student who had benefitted by KKMA scholarship and now has become a doctor.

“When I was in Kuwait I have seen many incidents where youngsters from our community despite having the ability fail to get good jobs only because of lack of education certificates. This situation must not continue. Every student must study hard and try to secure good position in society,” he said.

Chief guest Abdul Jabbar, President, KKMA Karnataka Branch Kuwait, said that KKMA is a 16000 members association and 95% of those members are low salaried employees in Kuwait. “They work hard for the benefit of their family and they provide a part of their low salary to society. This scholarship is form that amount. We are just passing our social responsibility to your hands by this scholarship now you student should utilize it and try to fulfill your social responsibility,” he said.

As many as 10 scholarships, 5 student adoption, 5 student awards, dialysis amount for 15 members and advance amount for Sarfraz Shiroor under Dream house scheme were distributed on the occasion. 

Another chief Guest Architect Nisar gave advices to the students by explaining the value of sacrifices and how to get success through utilizing opportunities. 

Another chief guest Nazim S S, President, Highland Islamic Forum, made dua for speed recovery of all the dialysis patients who benefited from KKMA’s scheme Ibrahim Master Shiroor proposed vote of thanks. S M Imtiyaz played was convener of the programme. Members of Highland Islamic Forum, Nazim AK, Sajid AK, Noushad AK, and Mohammed Rizwan were present.

The applicant must pursuit of either an undergraduate degree or master degree.
For an undergraduate degree, the applicant must have completed and passed 30 credits with at least a 2.75 GPA.
For a master degree, the applicant must have completed and passed nine (9) credits with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Applicant must be a family member of an APSCUF/APSCURF member in good standing or an APSCUF staff member.

Mangaluru, Jan 5: In a frightening incident, a leopard which was trapped in a snare attacked and injured three persons in its successful bid to escape Balpa village in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada. 

The incident occurred on Thursday when around 15 forest staff approached the trapped leopard to tranquilize it with a dart. The leopard, however, managed escape. 

While running away, it attacked a villager Balakrishna, aged about 70, who was working in the nearby plantation. He sustained injuries on his upper lips.

He was rushed to a hospital in Sullia and then was shifted to the Government Wenlock hospital for further treatment. He is learnt to be out of danger.

After this incident, the forest department kept a tab and tracked the leopard using a drone.  

According to V Karikalan, deputy conservator of forest (DCF), Dakshina Kannada, Between 5pm to 5.30pm on a tip off that leopard was spotted near a bush, the forest department tried to approach it again and the animal jumped on the officials, injuring Assistant Conservator of Forests Austin and forest guard Divith. 

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and then taken to Mangaluru for further treatment. They are learnt to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, the department is continuing combing in the village and surrounding areas. Three teams consisting of three RFOs and 10 Dy RFOs, supported by doctors are on the field. The forest department has also placed two leopard capturing cages in the area. Night patrolling will continue and public announcements are being made.

Kundapur, Apr 13: The city police, burdened with the enforcement of COVID-19 lockdown decided to undertake door delivery of essential items to ensure people remained indoor, official sources said here on Monday.

According to them, the police would be delivering items to the houses in Kumdapur, Byndoor, Gongolli, Shankara Narayana, Kundapur Rural, Kota and Amavasebail.

The police will start spreading awareness with this regard for three days starting from today (April 13).

Gadag, Mar 28: At a time when the adminsitration is insisting on social diatancing due to COVID-19 outbreak, scores of people gathered in large numbers at an Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market in Gadag district to buy essential commodities.

Both men and women could be seen standing in large groups near the vendors to buy fruits and vegetables. Some of the customers were also heard bargaining with the sellers in the morning today.

A couple of days back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that social distancing is the only way to counter the spread of COVID-19, saying the virus does not discriminate and it can infect anyone.

Interacting with the people of Varanasi through video conferencing, the Prime Minister had stated that some people, despite being empowered with knowledge, are not pay heed to warning which is unfortunate.

He said the 'Mahabharata' war was won in 18 days and the war against coronavirus will take 21 days and the aim is to win it.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 873 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India.
