Kodagu: Govt to pay house rent of flood victims till new houses are ready

Madikeri, Sept 9: The Kodagu district administration has announced that Until new houses were constructed for flood victims in Kodagu they will get a monthly rent which will be credited directly into their bank accounts.

In last month’s rain and floods, 643 houses had been partially damaged and 363 houses had either totally collapsed or severely damaged.

The Kodagu district administration has completed the process of uploading the details of houses damaged on the website of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Limited, which in turn will verify the details and accordingly credit the amount for the construction of houses into the accounts of the victims as per the assessment, a note from the district administration said.

Tourism takes a hit in coffee land Kodagu

Madikeri, Feb 23: Back-to-back floods and landslides in the last two years, has led to a fall in the number of tourists coming to the coffee-growing region of Kodagu, forcing the district administration to intervene and take confidence-building measures, telling tourists that Kodagu was safe to visit.

According to the statistics of the Karnataka State Tourism Department, Kodagu recorded a moderately good number of tourists in 2018 and 2019, the years that the district witnessed devastating floods and landslides.

The Department’s statistics reveal that 17 lakh tourists visited Kodagu in 2018 and 18 lakh in 2019. This means the flood-ravaged years did attract tourists contrary to what the stakeholders had claimed.

Malpe beach utsava on Feb 1, 2

Udupi, Jan 7: The Malpe Beach Utsav will be held on February 1 and 2, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district G Jagadeesh said on Tuesday.

According to a release issued here, the festival, which was slated to be held between December 29-31, had been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

The DC said various beach sports and cultural events have been organised to mark the Utsav.

Covid-19: Safety of families of Dubai Kannaidgas is our responsibility: Karnataka Home Minister

Bengaluru, Apr 18: State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that there is no need for Dubai Kannadigas to be worried during the COVID-19 crisis.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that the State government is with the Dubai Kannadigas and their families residing here in the State, promising that they will not face any problems.

Bommai also sought the cooperation of all Dubai-based Kannadiga industrialists and employees in the fight against the virus.
