Kudla tiger dance rocks during Oman Billawas’ Dandia celebration in Muscat

Muscat, Oct 23: During this Dasara, the glory of Mangaluru Pilivesha reached the shores of Oman in the Gulf with a riveting performance by nine tiger dancers to the mesmerizing tiger dance beats. The team of nine included three tiny tigers, namely Pavan Nitin Kumar, Ayush Shridhar Amin and Sannavi Nitin Kumar. This was part of the gala Garbha/Dandia evening organized by Oman Billawas as part of Dasara celebrations. The event took place on Friday, 12th October 2018, at Al Maasa Hall, in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

The evening commenced with lighting of lamp by the ladies of Oman Billawas. Kids recited melodious prayers, following which Umesh Jeppu performed the Mangalarathi of Goddess Durga and prasadam was distributed. After the formal welcome by Cultural Secretary Amitha Sridhar, Ashwini Rohidas spoke on the meaning of Navarathri and the significance of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. She highlighted the importance of this festival which signifies power, wealth, prosperity and knowledge.

The dance floor was then open for everyone to join in the Garbha dance. The enthusiasm with which members and their families participated in the dance was contagious. Soon the floor was overflowing with children, ladies and the gentlemen, donning colorful attire and dancing merrily to the melodies churned out by DJ Sandeep Suvarna.

The tiger dance coordinated Praveen Amin and his team of nine tigers was a major attraction of the evening. With their faces beautifully painted by Vijay Kodialbail and donning the tiger suits the team put up a mind boggling performance which was enjoyed and appreciated by all. After the performance, many of the members, including ladies and children stepped on to the dance floor to perform tiger dance to the melodious beats provided by DJ Sandy, and the lights and sound was provided by Uttam Kotian. After this the festivities continued with all members participating in the Dandia dance.

During a break in the dance activities, a promotional video of an upcoming Tulu movie Kambalabettu Bhatrena Magal was played, featuring budding Billawa talents of Mangalore, Shailu Birwa, Sharath Poojary Kapu, Lavanya Kotian and Sanket Poojary. Promotional for another movie 2 Ekre by Sandesh Raj Bangera was also screened. The fun activities included a raffle draw wherein 8 lucky winners were given high value prizes which were sponsored by Mr.& Mrs Manohar Salian, Mr& Mrs. Dinesh Poojary and Mr& Mrs. Rathan Kumar.

The highlight of the evening was the snacks boxes organized by Mr & Mrs. Uttam Kotian and homemade food which was prepared by our Oman Billawa ladies, which was enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. Curtains were drawn on an eventful evening with a vote of thanks by Vijay Kodialbail. The dance and festivities continued till late in the night.

Bantwal, Karnataka, May 29: Vitla Police have registered a case against four persons, including a Bajrang Dal leader, on charges of assaulting a boy and forcing him to chant 'Jai Shree Ram', video of which had gone viral on social media.

Police said on Friday that the accused have been identified as Bajrang Dal leader Dinesh, a resident of Kanyana, and two 16-year-old youngsters from Kolnadu village and a 17-year-old boy from Kanyana village. The victim of the assault has been identified as the first PUC student of Kudtumugaru.

On April 21, at around 11 am, four accused waylaid the boy's bike and started abusing him. They then dragged the boy to Kadumath High School grounds and assaulted and posed life threat. Besides, they forced him to chant ''Jai Shree Ram,'' he stated in the complaint.

More than 500 flights are expected to be operated in the fourth phase of Vande Bharat Mission, the “paid evacuation” mission of the government of India during covid-19 crisis.

This includes both Air India and private carriers who are ramping up their operations in a big way. 

Air India will be operating 170 flights till 15th of July to and from 17 countries, including Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Philippines.

Private airlines such as IndiGo and GoAir will have significant participation in the fourth phase of Vande Bharat Mission. 

The Civil Aviation Ministry said that among others, Indigo will operate 238 flights from Qatar and 219 flights from Kuwait. GoAir will operate 41 flights from Kuwait. Phase Four will particularly focus on countries where there still are a large number of Indians who have registered to return.

Meanwhile, a record five lakh stranded Indians have returned safely to India under the Mission till now. The operations commenced on 7th May and in less than two months, nearly five lakh four thousand stranded Indians from 137 countries have returned to their homes.

Udupi, Jan 17: In a unique philanthropic initiative, two US based NRI children have established the first unit of Keithan & Keisha Skill Development Centre at SVS English Medium School, Katapady in Udupi district.

The centre was inaugurated by Dr. Ranjan B. Kini, Professor of Management - Information Systems of Indiana University Northwest (UCN), USA on Saturday, January 11, 2020.

The centre will provide exposure to rural high school students in technical skills in emerging technological domains, soft skills and life skills through online training and video conferencing during weekend seminars. The centre is established by Keithan and Keisha with the help of their parents. They are the children of Katapady Krishna Mohan Pai, CEO of Invenger Technologies Inc., USA. One 55 inch LCD TV, two computers and one laptop were donated as part of the initiation package.

Dr. Srikanth Prabhu, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, MIT, Manipal will be anchoring the training sessions which will cover emerging fields like Robotics, its impact and the opportunities in the future. The training will include international online programmes and video conferencing.

“In today’s competitive world, students need technical knowledge to keep pace with the changing scenarios. Along with technical exposure, they should also be equipped with soft skills, communication skills and organizing abilities,” said Dr. Ranjan B. Kini after inaugurating the first unit at SVS English Medium School, Katapady.

Dr. Srikanth Prabhu informed the gathering about the idea behind the project, explained its features and programmes. “If good awareness is given to students at a young age regarding latest developments in technical fields and if they are trained in soft skills and other complementary skills, they will be able to face the future with confidence and attain the heights of success even if beginning from zero,” he said.

Presiding over the function K. Sathyendra Pai, Director of Invenger Technologies said, “This is the first centre to be set up under our initiative to train rural children in add-on skills and help them to gain parity with better educated students.”  More such centres will be set up in other schools soon, he added.

Katapady Krishna Mohan Pai, CEO of Invenger Technologies Inc., Amith Nayak of Archana Developers, Umesh Rao, President of Rotary Club Katapady, Savitha Manjunath, PWD Officer of Udupi, technical experts Nidhi Manjunath and Mitesh Singh were the guests of honour. Directors of the company B. C. Pai, Srinivas Vasudev Kini and Venkatramana Bhat were present.

School Headmaster Devendra Nayak welcomed the gathering. Megha gave a vote of thanks. School teachers Uma and Chaitra along with other teachers coordinated the event. Student leaders Dhanush and Jessel Vinola Quadros compered the programme.
