KWAR holds grand ‘Karavali Parba’ in Riyadh

Riyadh: The Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) organised its annual mega event ‘Karavali Parba’ on 11th May, 2017 At Qasr Al Arab Auditorium in Riyadh.

The function was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the chief guest Anil Nautiyal, Counsellor Community Welfare Embassy of India Riyadh, Guest of Hon. Mrs Zeenat Zafri, Air India Manager Kundan Lal, KWAR President Santhosh Shetty, Vice President Muzaffar Ali, General Secretary Shashidhar Haridas, and Former President Rajesh Kumar. Cultural secretary P.M. Bhaskar, Treasurer Nelson Dsouza and other prominent executive committee members were present on the dais.

The programme started after the well prepared delicious dinner at the venue served to all the guests which was well coordinated by Muzaffar Ali, Yathiraj Malpe, Mr.Salman Noor, Shafi Hussein, G.K.Sheikh, Umesh Shetty, Prasanna Bhat, Iqbal Shirva, Jayakar Poojary, Jagannath Kotian, Tejraj Shetty and other members. The gates were at the able hands of Mr. Victor, Mr. Ashwath, Mr. Nelson and Mr. Jagadeesh. As always they managed it very well to handle all the Guests.

The cultural team was well managed by P.M.Bhaskar, Mr. Suresh Raj, Mr.Mahesh hegde, Mr, Dilip Kumar, Mr. Jayakar Poojary and Mr. Varun shetty who did a wonderful job to present one of the best Entertainment programme in KWARs history.

Once the go ahead was given by the Hon cultural Secretary Mr.P.M.Bhaskar, the Three MCs Mr Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli, Mr. Parvez Ali and Mr. Nazeer Ahmed took over the centre stage, enthralled the hugely gathered audience with their wit and humour.

KWAR President Mr. Santhosh Shetty gave his Inaugural speech in which he warmly welcomed all the Guests and the packed audience who were so excited to watch the cultural programs ahead. KWAR President stressed the need for Unity among all the members and He felt proud to head an Organisation which is the onlyorganisation in the kingdom with variety and diversity of cultures but United for KWAR's cause.

Soon after his Inaugural speech KWAR President Invited Chief Guest for the evening the Counsellor of India Mr. Anil Nautiyal to the dais and felicitated him with a Flower Bouquet and in his Speech Mr. Nautiyal Promised to help all Indians living in the kingdom without any prejudice and he thanked KWAR members for their participation in the Saudi Government's Amnesty programme, for which KWAR volunteers did a great service. The President thanked the Counsellor Mr. Anil Nautiyal For taking time to grace the occasion, and then Invited Mrs Zeenat Zafri, an educationalist of par excellence, Former Principal of IISR, who was a recentrecipient of Pravaasi Bhartiya award 2017 from President of Republic of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

The felicitation was done by Dr. Vanishree Santhosh, , Mrs Lata Rajesh and Mrs Lubna Bhanu. Mr. Zafri too accompanied his wife at the dias. In her Rollicking speech Mrs Zafri stressed the need for education to all which is her main motto and Promised to help anyone in this direction. She also promised KWAR members her help whenever they need it. She thanked KWAR President and all executive members for inviting and felicitating her and expressed her desire to b a member of this Noble organisation. In his addres to the audience, Air India manager Shri Kundanlal promised to speed up Riyadh-Mangalore Direct Flight issue and we in KWAR feel he is our last hope and hope it will be done before we celebrate our next anniversary.

The real entertainment began with a eye catching Fusion Dance by Michelle, Elita & Karan which was well directed by Michelle, the teen sensation, very well compiled and enacted to the thunderous applause from Roaring Crowd. Crowds were at their feat when our own KWAR Kids performed a mind blowing dance with so much energy which really kept the audience at their feet. It was a well choreographed by their favourite Shri Vishnu Vijayan Sir, who also directed another dance "Master's Choice" which was well appreciated by the thunderous crowd. All credit goes to Shri Vishnu Vijayan for training and nurturing KWAR's upcoming Stars.

The message to the masses about the recent Amnesty Programme by The Government of Saudi was well narrated by a Tulu Play called "Paradeshodu Paradata" which was directed by KWAR's evergreen Director Shri P.M.Bhasker and enacted well by Rajesh Kumar, Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli, Sathish Poojary and supported by other KWAR members. The team of P.M.Bhaskar, Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli and Sathish Poojary also gave a message to the Audience the theme of Alcohol Consumption is evil of Society with their comedy Tulu play "Kudukara Adyaksha". Both the short plays were well appreciated by the Karavali guests.

The Audience were well entertained by Kum. Shreeja Janardhan, Mr.Murali, Mr. P.M.Bhaskar, Mr Ralph Dsouza(Gulf Voice fame), Sony, Mr. Rahmat Khan, Mr. Yashwanth (from MASA dammam), Mr. Roshan (from Jeddah), Mr. Nazeer Ahmed, and Mr. Rajeev Kamath by their melodious voice and song selections. Ms Eden D'sa mesmerised the Crowd with her melodious voice in her Fusion Song.

KWAR's Man of all Seasons Mr. Prasanna Rao, The ever active and KWAR's backbone Mr. Parvez Ali, and the ever smiling and ready to help for any of KWARs cause Mr. Suresh Raj were Felicitated by KWAR President Shri Santhosh Shetty and Members of Executive committee, for their immense selfless contribution to KWAR for the last 9 years.

Major event of Karavali Parba which kept the Audience at spell bound was undoubtedly the 45 minute Non- stop "Baarisu Kannada Dindimava", which is a mixture of rich culture and heritage as well as history of Karnataka which was well presented by Gauji Gammath Group's (G3) great talents and masterfully Directed by KWAR's well wisher Mr. Nagaraj Bajal. It was Indeed a Great show and Superlative Performance by one and all including the tiny tots to senior citizens, which was appreciated and applauded by all the guests.

For the first time the Audience could enjoy entertainment live on a Giant LCD screen Installed in the Live stage, which was a treat to watch, well appreciated by one and all. The credit must go to our Evergreen Cultural team lead by Mr. P.M. Bhaskar. All the Participants were awarded with Medals and kids were also presented with gift meal coupons from One of our sponsors McDonalds. Lucky Draw was conducted on regular intervals sponsored by Air India, (which was drawn by Air India's Mr. Kingsley Fernandes), Jet Airways, as well as for other Prizes.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
