KWAR wins first NRI Kabaddi League Trophy

Jeddah: Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) won the prestigious Kabaddi League- 2017 championship trophy organized by NRI Sports Federation, in association with SACQO and Bhatkal Community, Jeddah on 10th March 2017 at Shababiya Ground, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Nine teams from all over Saudi Arabia participated in Kabaddi League, 2017.

Opening Ceremony wasstarted by playing the National Anthem of both India and Saudi Arabia. Colorful League was grandly inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri. Anand Kumar, Consul(consular) of Jeddah Consulate by freeing the birds. Speaking on the occasion he said that he felthappy to see the players from different parts of Saudi Arabia and it was great occasion to see Kabaddi match live in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Ashraf Morayoor - President of Indian Social Forum, Mr. Nouman Ali Akbara – President of Bhatkal Community Jeddah, Mr. Roshan Rodrigues – President of KNRI, Mr. Mallappan – General Manager of Yousuf Al Rooq Trading Est., Mr. Faizuddin – President of Indian Fraternirt Forum, MuthalibPadubidri – General Manager of Bin Fahad Engineering and the team Managers of all the teams were present in the dais.

Inaugural Match was played between the Saqco-Kalladka Warriors &Bhatkal Community Jeddah - Co Partners of the event. KWAR entered the final round of the tournament beating Al Muzain – Al Ahsa Knight Riders in semifinal while White Stone-Navayuga entered finals by defeating SACQO Kalladka Warriors in second semifinal.

Final match between KWAR and White Stone was very exciting with the both teams scoring same points of 19-19 after full time. KWAR won the final match on extra time of 5 each rides.

KWAR player Mr. Muhammed Nazeer won the man of the series award for his magnificent performance throughout the tournament. Mr. Adam from white stone awarded with best rider while Mr.Siddique from Al Muzain won best all rounder trophy. Arjun from KWAR retained best performer trophy.IlyasPadubidri,Mr. Rohan Shetty, Mr. Santhosh Shetty, Mr. HaarisGoodinabali presented trophies to the players and teams.

Bhatkal Community Jeddah,Bhatkal Community A, Energia Al Faris, Manki Community Jeddah and Jeddah Tamil Thunders participated in Kabaddi League 2017.

General Secretary of NRI Sports Federation Akbar Kalladka welcomed the Guests and gathering while ElyasPadubidri delivered vote of thanks. Mohammed Ali Muloor,Anchor of the Kabaddi League 2017, thanked all the sponsors and concluded Kabaddi League 2017.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20. 

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.
