New Delhi, Jul 10: The Jammu-Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba group which was involved in a spate of bank and ATM robberies.

Police arrested Sandip Kumar Sharma, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the case. He was also allegedly part of the LeT group that ambushed a police patrol and killed six security personnel, including SHO Firoz Dar.

Briefing the media, J&K IGP Munir Khan said: He (Sandeep) was a criminal, he got in touch with Lashkar through one Shakoor of Sopore…The militants of Lashkar took help of Sandeep to loot ATMs, and they also indulged in immoral activities in the villages.”

Khan claimed the Lashkar was recruiting non-local criminals to carry out their terrorist activities in the Valley. Khan said Sandeep Sharma was apprehended from a house where Lashkar militants took shelter.

"Sandeep son of Ram Sharma incidentally was in the same house where dreaded Lashkar militant, Bashir Lashkar was residing. To the locals he(Sandeep) used the name Adil. He lived with two identities," Khan told media.

According to the reports, militants have looted over a dozen banks or ATMs across Kashmir in recent months.

On further inquiry by the police, it was revealed that Sandeep along with other individuals hatched a criminal conspiracy leading to providing shelter, ferrying of terrorists from one place to other for terror strikes and actively participating in terrorist activities.

He also concealed weapons looted from police guards in a vehicle and shifted them to different locations on the directions of LeT. An investigation is underway for ascertaining the roles of his other associates in the crimes.

Bhopal, Mar 7: Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera on Saturday said that he was not in any kind of captivity in Bengaluru and he will meet Chief Minister Kamal Nath soon.

"I was in Bengaluru for my daughter's medical treatment. I was not in any kind of captivity. I will meet CM Kamal Nath soon," Shera told reporters here upon returning to Bhopal from Bengaluru.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP had escorted four Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including three from his party, to Bengaluru.

"Last night, two charter planes were booked by BJP to take MLAs to Bengaluru. One was a 9-seater plane while the other was 12-seater. In the 12-seater plane, four MLAs were taken to Bengaluru. Out of them, three Congress MLAs Bisahulal Singh, Raghuraj Kansana and Hardeep Dang and one Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera," Singh had said.

He has accused BJP of resorting to horse-trading in order to bring down the Kamal Nath government.

Madikeri, Jan 5: Frequent attacks by Tigers on their cattle in South Kodagu region has left the dairy farmers a worried lot and causing concern for their life.

Several farmers have been rearing cows to supplement their income when low prices of pepper and coffee affect their earnings. At least 13 cows have fallen prey to Tigers in the months of November and December last year.

The Forest Department provides a compensation of Rs 10,000 if a cattle is killed by a tiger or in the attack. The compensation amount is meagre when it comes to the loss incurred by the farmers.

Though the Forest Department has submitted a proposal to increase the compensation amount to the government, no action has been initiated in this regard.
