Mangaluru, Dec 16: Exhorting the people to learn the religion with an open mind, Islamic orator Muhammad Kunhi said that acquiring knowledge about one’s own religion will help to eliminate misconceptions about other religions.

In an interaction programme with the local newsmen organised by the Highland Islamic Forum (HIF) as part of its campaign to spread the message of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) at the Mangaluru Press Club in association with the Journalists’ Union, he said that there has been several misconceptions about Islam and Muslims in the society.

Replying to a query, Mr Kunhi said that ill-intentioned rumours such as there will be caches of weapons in mosques and madrasas have naturally deepened misconceptions among followers of other faiths.

Explaining the concept of masjid, he said that Islam doesn’t prohibit people of any faith from entering the mosques. “There is no special ritual to enter the mosque. Just wash your feet (to maintain cleanliness), he said.

He also said that mosques across the country are these days welcoming the non-Muslims with the sole intention of quelling misconceptions among them.

Srinivas Nayak Indaje, President of Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Union, Sajid AK, president of HIF and Muhammad Rizwan, former president of HIF were present.
