At least 9 killed in Tamil Nadu as bus rams into lorry

Tiruchirappalli, Oct 21: At least nine people died and 14 were injured after a state-run bus rammed into a stationary lorry near Tiruchirappalli late on Tuesday night, police said.

busThe bus from Chennai to Nagercoil rammed into the stationary lorry at Samayapuram, killing at least nine bus passengers on the spot, police said.

Those injured have been taken to a hospital and some of them are in a serious condition, police added.

Rescue teams -- including district administration officials -- were engaged in rescuing those trapped in the bus, police said, adding the driver of the lorry was absconding after the incident.

The lorry was parked on the busy highway and it supposedly did not have tail lamps switched on.

Minister for health and family welfare Vijaya Baskar visited the hospital.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.

Kochi, Feb 6: A 46-year-old Thailand national was allegedly raped by two men here, following which they were arrested, police said on Thursday.

The accused hailing from a north Kerala district have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.

Police said the accused-- Mohammed Insaf and his friend Ansaruddin from Kondotty in Malappuram district were arrested after recording the statement of the victim.

The woman from Thailand had been a Facebook friend of Insaf for the last seven months after she enrolled her child in a school in Malappuram district.

The woman who came from Bangkok recently to visit her child and was staying in a hotel here.

When Insaf came to meet the woman, he was accompanied by his friend Ansaruddin and both allegedly raped the woman at the hotel room, police said.

All formalities including medical examination of the woman were completed, police said.

The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday, they added.

Kozhikode, Jun 26: A man, who had returned from Bahrain on Thursday and has been under quarantine at his house in Villyapallai near here, has been stabbed on his arm by an unidentified person.

Police sources said the assailant, with a masked face, had ransacked the man's house by break-opening the door at midnight lat night and stabbed Lijeesh on his arm and fled from the scene.

The nearby residents took Lijeesh to a nearby hospital and was put back on quarantine.
