LKG student Fatima Tauhida killed by reckless school van

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A four-year-old girl died after she was hit by her school van near Charmadi in Belthangady taluk on Thursday.

accidentThe victim has been identified as Fatima Tauhida (4), daughter of Hamad Kunhi residing at Shivabettu Road house at Charmadi. She was an LKG student of an English medium school in Kakkinje.

The tragedy occurred at 4.50 p.m., after the girl was dropped by the school van near her house after the class.

According to police, after alighting from the school van Tauhida and her elder sister were crossing the road from the backside of the van.

All of a sudden, the school van moved backward and knocked down Tauhida. Even though the girl was immediately rushed to a hospital, she breathed her los on the way.

Eye witnesses held the recklessness van driver responsible for the tragedy. Soon after hitting the girl, the driver abandoned the school van and escaped.

A case has been registered at Dharmasthala police station and investigations are on.

90% of these mini van drivers are the worst in mangalore town also..running around in city with rash attitude, high music and horning around other vehicles and overtaking recklessly....
At least the authorities should put some control on these rubbish drivers for the sake of our kids. every one does not afford to send kids by school transport buses..

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Novel coronavirus has claimed another police officer's life here, official sources said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the deceased police officer attached to station in Whitefield division had collapsed in his home on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Police officer, working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, also reportedly suffered from breathing related problems, the sources said.

Dubai, May 9: A flight scheduled to bring back Kannadigas, especially Mangalureans stranded in Dubai on May 14 has been rescheduled to May 12.

The flight will take off from Dubai at 4.10 pm UAE time and reach Mangaluru International Airport at 9.10 pm IST on May 12, announced Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda in a tweet.

The flight was earlier scheduled for May 12 and then it was postponed to May 14. Now, it has been rescheduled to May 12.

It is said that constant persuasion from NRIs in UAE led to advance the paid evacuation drive.

In fact, Karnataka was missing in the list of states to receive special flights when Ministry of External Affairs arranged them to bring stranded Indians at UAE. Special flights were arranged only to Kerala and Tamil Nadu people stranded at UAE in the first stage.

Thanks to Karnataka NRI Forum of UAE which opened helpline to seek assistance to Kannadigas, nearly 2000 Kannadigas have registered for assistance in which 127 pregnant women, 27 senior citizens, 700 people who have lost jobs aftermath of coronavirus sought assistance from NRI forum.

In the first flight, priority will be given to people with medical emergency and pregnant women. Once the passengers reach Mangaluru, they will be quarantined in their home districts.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Dakshina Kannada District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday announced that essential shops including grocery stores, fruits and vegetable shops will be allowed to open from Wednesday between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs across the district.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that Milk, Medical, Gas distribution, Petrol Bunks, Banks will be opened as usual, he informed adding that Central Market and the Suratkal Market will remain closed.

With the Dakshin Kannada district administration relaxing the lockdown from 0600 hrs to 1500 hrs to purchase essential commodities, panic-stricken citizens rushed to the shops early in the morning itself.
