Police sources said Soniya has four siblings -- a brother, who had gone to a relative’s house in Haryana, and two younger sisters. Before hacking his daughter, Asha Ram sent his wife to purchase milk from a nearby market.

The police said that the woman had eloped with some other boy around three years ago but her father found her soon after she went missing.

“Then, the family did not report the matter to police. Later, she came in contact with a man who resides in Loni. She wanted to marry him against her family’s wishes. After her father surrendered before the police, we also recovered the axe used in the crime,” said Yadav.
