Man cuts daughter’s throat with axe over inter-caste affair in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Oct 27: Upset over her affair with a man from a different caste, a father allegedly cut the throat of his 20-year-old girl with an axe at Loni in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.

axedPolice said accused Asha Ram, 45, attacked his daughter, Soniya, at 5am when she was asleep and then threw her down from the first floor terrace to an adjacent bylane.

“Asha Ram said that he tried to persuade his daughter to snap his relations with the man but she was adamant on marrying him. Asha Ram surrendered at a police station,” said Anil Kumar Yadav, circle officer (Loni).

Police sources said Soniya has four siblings -- a brother, who had gone to a relative’s house in Haryana, and two younger sisters. Before hacking his daughter, Asha Ram sent his wife to purchase milk from a nearby market.

The Ghaziabad police lodged an FIR at the Loni Border police station?in the case on a complaint by the victim’s mother. The family hails from Bahora Patiyali in Etah district.

“I implored her, even touched her feet to get herself out of the relationship... but she did not listen to me... I was left with no option but to take this step... I killed her and I have no regrets,” said Ram.

The police said that the woman had eloped with some other boy around three years ago but her father found her soon after she went missing.

“Then, the family did not report the matter to police. Later, she came in contact with a man who resides in Loni. She wanted to marry him against her family’s wishes. After her father surrendered before the police, we also recovered the axe used in the crime,” said Yadav.

Pilibhit, Apr 3: Two men were mauled to death by a tiger in the vicinity of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve here, an official said on Friday.

The incident happened in Richhaula Chowki of Gajraula area in the district on Thursday night when Ninder Singh (50) and his servant Dorilal (28) were sleeping on their agricultural field, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Naveen Khandelwal told reporters.

The tiger also dragged them for over 500 metres, he said.

The forest department came to know about the incident when they were informed about it by Ninder's brother after which teams of police, district administration and forest department reached there.

The tiger was tranquillised on Friday by the forest department team and will be sent to Lucknow Zoo.

Visakhapatnam, Jun 30: Two people were killed and four others were taken ill after benzene gas leaked at a pharmaceutical company at Parawada near here early on Tuesday morning, official sources said.

The situation was now under control as the leak was restricted to one unit in the Sainor Life Sciences company, the sources said.

The two killed were senior employees of the company, they said.

The injured persons have been admitted to a hospital in Gajuwaka, with one of them being put on ventilator support, the sources added.

District Collector V Vinay Chand and Police Commissioner R K Meena visited the company to take stock of the situation.

The cause of the leak that took place in a reactor unit at the plant is yet to be established.

The incident comes nearly two months after 11 people were killed and over 1000 taken ill after gas leak at a chemical plant here.

Jun 5: The fear of contracting COVID-19 infection allegedly forced a 65-year-old man to commit suicide in Maharashtra's Beed district, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred at Mangewadi in Patoda on Thursday, when a passerby found the body of Asaram Pote hanging from a tree in his farm, an official said.

The police were immediately alerted and Pote's body was brought down in the presence of his relatives and locals, he said.

A suicide note was found on the deceased's person, in which he said that he had taken the extreme step as he was scared of contracting COVID-19 infection and no one should be held responsible for his death, the official said.

A case of accidental death was registered in this regard and further probe was underway, he added.
