Man held for uploading estranged wife’s photos on website

Bengaluru, Jun 4: The cyber crime police have arrested a 32-year-old man who allegedly uploaded morphed photographs of his estranged wife along with her contact number on a dating website.

The accused, Vinay, who works as a clerical staff in a media house in Bengaluru, had separated from his wife following a domestic row.

According to the police, he was convinced that his wife was having an affair with her friend.

“He had created a fake account using her friend’s name on a dating platform and also uploaded photographs of his wife along with her contact number. The accused had even began to harass her friend’s family and friends through anonymous calls,” said the police.

The situation exacerbated after his wife started getting calls from strangers, seeking favours.

Unable to bear the harassment, her friend filed a complaint following which the cyber crime police tracked down Vinay.

He confessed to the crime, and has been booked under various sections of the IT Act and remanded to judicial custody.

Behrampur, Jun 7: A migrant labourer spent two days in jungle after allegedly being denied entry to a quarantine centre and his village in Behrampur.

According to a local from the village, no one helped the labourer. "He came from Chennai. He went to the police and block office but no one helped. Then, he went to the jungle."

Later, the police took him to the quarantine centre.

As per the Union Health Ministry, there are 2,608 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Odisha, including 996 active cases, 1,604 recovered/discharged/migrated and 8 deaths.

Kozhikode, Jul 20: A 17-year old boy died of head injuries while trying to protect his mother from being assaulted by his drunk father here, police said on Sunday.

The youngster suffered the fatal injury after his head hit against the door when his father shoved him at their home on Saturday. Venu, had come home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his wife and started beating her up, they said.

On seeing this, Alan tried to intervene. Though the boy was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved, they added. Venu was arrested and a case has been registered.

Mathura, Jul 22: A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Wednesday sentenced 11 policemen, including the then Deputy Superintendent of Police, to life imprisonment in a case pertaining to the murder of royal Raja Man Singh in 1985.

District Judge Sadhana Rani Thakur announced the life imprisonment sentence a day after holding them guilty of the killing. Three policemen were, however, acquitted. Four men died during the trial.

The policemen were convicted under Section 302 (murder), 148 (rioting) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code.

The verdict comes 35 years after Man Singh was killed. He, along with two others, was shot dead in police firing a day after he crashed his jeep into the then Rajasthan Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur's helicopter in a fit of anger.
