Man kills in-laws; injures wife, minor daughter

New Delhi, Oct 29: A 28-year-old man killed his parents-in-laws and injured his wife, minor daughter and brother-in-law in Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi this evening in a fit of rage. The accused, identified as Chintu, also sustained severe injuries as he was held and thrashed by neighbours who managed to catch hold of him, said a senior police officer.

murderChintu allegedly had strained relations with his wife Renu who had left him and was staying at her parents' place and had even filed for divorce from him, the officer added. Chintu attacked Renu with a large tent nail at her parents' house in Jatav Basti around 7.45 pm and when his mother-in-law Roshan intervened, he hit her on the head, police said.

His father-in-law Trilok Chand, who was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, died in hospital. Chintu's daughter Neha, Renu and brother-in-law are currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS where their condition is stated to be critical, said the officer. While Chintu was attacking his wife Renu, his children Neha (7) and Laddoo (5) started crying for help and in a fit of rage, he pushed Neha off the terrace.

When neighbours heard cries for help from the house, they came and managed to catch hold of Chintu who was trying to flee and beat him up, police said. He is currently admitted in AIIMS and is in a critical condition, police said. Renu's family members claimed she was being harassed by Chintu and his family for dowry and upset by their constant demands, she had left him and was staying at her parents' place, said the officer.

Renu and Chintu's families had arrived at an arrangement that she would stay at her parents' house but Chintu didn't accept this arrangement. In a fit of rage, he attacked Renu and his family.

Nagpur, July 21: In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old boy allegedly killed self in Maharashtra's Nagpur city after being reprimanded by his mother for buying a samosa, police said on Tuesday.

Veeru Natthu Sahu was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Ganga Nagar in Gittikhadan area on Sunday night, an official said.

The deceased boy's family was struggling to make ends meet after their small business was hit because of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, he said.

The Class 7 student had taken Rs 10 from home without asking his mother and bought a samosa, which was then eaten by his elder brother, the official said.

The boy's mother scolded him for taking money without her permission and asked him to get the snack for himself, following which the distraught minor allegedly went into the kitchen and hanged himself using a saree, he said.

The Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard, the official added.

Visakhapatnam, Jun 30: Two people were killed and four others were taken ill after benzene gas leaked at a pharmaceutical company at Parawada near here early on Tuesday morning, official sources said.

The situation was now under control as the leak was restricted to one unit in the Sainor Life Sciences company, the sources said.

The two killed were senior employees of the company, they said.

The injured persons have been admitted to a hospital in Gajuwaka, with one of them being put on ventilator support, the sources added.

District Collector V Vinay Chand and Police Commissioner R K Meena visited the company to take stock of the situation.

The cause of the leak that took place in a reactor unit at the plant is yet to be established.

The incident comes nearly two months after 11 people were killed and over 1000 taken ill after gas leak at a chemical plant here.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22:An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act jumped into the sea on Wednesday morning when he was taken for evidence collection at Kasaba in Kasargode district, police said.

Accused Mahesh was arrested following a complaint by his neighbour on Tuesday evening.

The police said that they took the accused to the seashore to collect evidence in the case when Mahesh jumped into the sea. Two police officials too jumped in after him to catch hold of him but could not locate Mahesh.

Later, swimmers were deployed to try and locate the missing man.
