Bengaluru, Feb 3: A 32-y e ar-old private firm employee, who was searching for a suitable match for his younger sister on matrimonial websites, was cheated of Rs 1.2 lakh by a tech-savvy gang.

Saurabh Kumar Nema, a resident of Jakkasandra Extension, approached Koramangala police on Thursday and filed a complaint against two people, including the man who posed as prospective bridegroom.

Nema said he uploaded his sister's profile on a matrimonial site recently. A person, who had created a profile on the matrimonial site in the name of Krishna Mahendra, evinced interest in Nema's sister.

"Saurabh agreed to the proposal as Mahendra posed as a doctor settled in the US. They exchanged contact numbers and kept messaging on WhatsApp. Mahendra informed him that he would reach Bengaluru in February and the engagement could be held once he reaches India," said police.

Meanwhile, Mahe ndra told Saurabh that he had sent a costly gift for his sister. Saurabh received a call from a woman claiming to be a customs department official on January 25, who said a gift addressed to him had reached her. She asked him to pay Rs 28,000 as customs duty.

Saurabh made the payment to a bank account provided by the woman and a day later, he received another call seeking Rs 95,000 towards various charges and taxes to release the gift. Saurabh paid the money, but realised that he had been cheated after the gift did not reach his house. A hunt is on for the miscreants.

Saurabh is really a fool to trust unknown persons.  We are receiving such news on daily basis and this person trusted them.   What a shame.  Now who is to be blamed.    Jago mere bhai jago.  Chaukidar hi chore hai to praja ka kya haal hoga.    Hindustan sirf Bhagwan bharose chal rahi hai warna ander se khali hai.  Sab paisa swiss bankon me chali gayi.  LUteron ko croron ke saath pahle se hi bhaga diye and baad me bade lutere jaakar share karega.    Aap bas dekhte hi rahiyega.

Bengaluru, Mar 8: Lieutenant General Milind Hemant Thakur, Director-General of Supply and Transport Corps of the Indian Army, unveiled the renovated Animal Memorial at Agram Grounds in ASC Centre and College here on Saturday.

The animal memorial signifies the contributions of mules and horses of the Indian Army. These animals belonging to the Army Service Corps, who have rendered their services relentlessly during the war in the Himalayas, often paying the highest price of sacrificing their lives in the line of duty have been chronicled in the Memorial.

To ensure that these hoof prints do not get obliterated, on approval by the Government of India, their saga was brought to life in the form of a sculptured monument in the Equestrian Training Area of the ASC Centre and College.

This animal transport memorial has now been extended by constructing two walls supported by Roman pillars on either side.

These walls highlight the role played by the animals in the Indian Army since the British Raj. It gives details of 637 gallantry awards won by the brave muleteers, 49 battle casualties since independence, 14 gallantry awards to mules since independence and 05 military recognitions bestowed by the Chief of the Army Staff and other Army Commanders on AT units, who have been relied upon heavily to fill an important niche in the logistics networks of the Indian Army.

Gen Thakur also declared that 26 September each year has been nominated as the AT Remembrance Day as it was on this day in 1914, that 9th mule Corps, as part of the Indian Expeditionary Force, landed at Marseilles in France, to a most hearty and enthusiastic welcome by the French to support the British and allied armies in World War One.

Wayanad, Jul 6: DM Education and Research Foundation (DMERF), headed by Dr Azad Moopen, has come forward to handover DM WIMS Medical College, Nursing and Pharmacy Colleges and its associated institutions in Wayanad to the Kerala Government.

According to Azad Moopen, Managing Trustee, DMERF, the Kerala Government has been deliberating to set up a medical college in the area over the last 7-8 years to address the challenges being faced by the local population due to lack of local availability of advanced healthcare facilities under the government sector.

The handover by DMERF would address the Government's need. DM WIMS is one of the few NABH accredited medical colleges in the country, he said.

The DM WIMS Medical College and its associated institutions were established by the DMERF Trust 10 years ago to help the backward community of the district.

Run in a charitable manner, the medical college has a capacity of 150 seats and has seen two batches of doctors graduate from the institution. With a total built up area of 14 lakh sq feet, it also has a 700-bed super-specialty hospital catering to the local community and helping in training healthcare professionals, a 100-bed specialty hospital, a pharmacy college, and a nursing college.

A new medical college by the government will require substantial investments and minimum of 5 years to become functional. “We think that DM WIMS can cater to the requirement of the government and setting up another medical college might not be required to cater to the existing population,” he said.

Moopen also announced a donation of Rs 250 crore out of the total investment in the institutions to the government to provide treatment to the needy population in the backward, landlocked district and to train good quality doctors from the State.
