Bengaluru, Aug 19: A 22-year-old man allegedly masqueraded as Sandalwood actor-singer Vasishta N Simha and his fictitious assistant and duped an aspiring actress of Rs 25,000.

Cybercrime police on Saturday arrested the impersonator, Venkatesh Bavasar, a resident of Hoysala Nagar in Sunkadakatte, after the actor lodged a complaint.

Venkatesh created a Facebook account in Vasishta’s name and started befriending women and chatting with them. He also shared his contact numbers with some of the women, who began connecting with him on WhatsApp. On the Truecaller app too, he had identified himself as Vasishta.

One of the women he had befriended on Facebook requested Venkatesh to get her a role in either a movie or a TV serial. Venkatesh continued to chat with her and told her he isn’t attending to voice calls till December-end as he was going through a rough patch. Believing it, the woman continued to chat with him. Venkatesh, meanwhile, shared with the woman the contact number of a man named Venky Rao, who he claimed was his assistant. Venky Rao, however, was none other than Venkatesh himself.

Venky took the woman to shooting spots a couple of times to make her believe that he had contacts in the industry. On a couple of occasions, the woman’s daughter too accompanied the duo. Venky told the woman he’d help her daughter to find a place in the industry. Venky took Rs 25,000 from the woman to get her and her daughter roles in movies and TV serials. He also told the woman that Vasishta was in love with her and wanted to marry her.

However, the fraud stood exposed when the woman accidentally made a video call to Venkatesh (Vasishta) and he picked up the call. The woman and her daughter approached Vasishta and explained to the actor that they had been taken for a ride. Probe revealed Venkatesh’s only link to Kannada film or TV serial industry was a make-up artist, who unknowingly facilitated his visits to the shooting locations.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Tumakuru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed the Congress and its allies opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, saying they are against giving relief to those who have been brutalised and victimised in Pakistan.

"Pakistan was founded on religious grounds due to which atrocities on minorities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Christians have increased. But Congress and its allies don't speak against Pakistan," he said at a function here.

He also said the Congress and its allies take out rallies and stage demonstrations against the efforts to prevent atrocities on religious lines and save women from sexual assaults.

Modi wondered why those opposed to the CAA were not speaking out against Pakistan's atrocities and asked what stopped them from doing so.

Strongly defending the CAA, he said it was adopted by Parliament in a historic move, but that the Congress and its allies and the ecosystem created by his party's rival were now against the very institution.

He said India cannot leave the Hindus, Christians and Sikhs apparently fleeing Pakistan to "their fate" and added it was the country's responsibility to protect them.

Modi pointed out that the efforts are especially to protect the Dalits and tribals in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the abrogation of Article 370 was a step towards ending terrorism and uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir.
