InfidelityNew Delhi, Nov 16: Suspecting infidelity, a 40-year-old taxi driver allegedly killed his wife and his neighbour in northeast Delhi's Gokulpuri area on Saturday.

The accused, Arun Chauhan, is absconding. The deceased have been identified as Kavita (35) and Aakash (23), nephew of Arun's landlord. Aakash had cleared Delhi Police's recruitment exams for head constable's post and was awaiting results.

While the actual motive is still unclear, prima facie the police suspect it to be a case of infidelity. Aakash's uncle told the police that Arun had borrowed money from his nephew but not paid the rent for the past two months due to which the two had frequent arguments.

The police are probing if this issue had a role to play in the murder. A case of murder has been registered.

Arun lived with his wife, son (9) and daughter (11) at a rented accommodation in lane number 7 of Ganga Vihar colony. Family members said the couple had a fight the previous night. Arun allegedly smothered her with a pillow in the early hours of Saturday.

"To everyone's shock, Arun woke his children up in the morning and asked them to go to the tuitions. Then he left the house. When the children returned, nobody opened the door. The kids went to the landlord's house to seek help. The landlord arrived and found Kavita's body inside the house and informed the police," Kavita's mother Usha said.

As the police reached the spot and started gathering information, they received another call about a body lying near the cemetery. The body turned out to be that of Akash's.

Investigations have revealed that Arun had called up Aakash early morning asking him to meet him. Arun had told him that his son had gone missing and he needed help in finding him, the police said.

Aakash, his family members said, accompanied Arun on his bike. On the pretext of looking for his son in the nearby areas, Arun took Aakash near a drain in Jyoti Nagar and attacked him.

"He whipped out a knife and began to stab Aakash frantically. He was stabbed 11 times on his chest, abdomen and face. Arun then dumped his body near the cemetery and fled. Aakash was declared brought dead at the hospital," a senior police officer said.

As soon as the murders came to fore, a team led by SHO Dharamdev launched a hunt for the accused. However, he was not arrested till late evening.

Neighbours said that the couple often quarreled over some issues but Kavita was amicable to them. "After her husband went to work, Kavita would come to our house in the afternoon for tea and chat. She would complain about household issues and worry for her children's upbringing due to the financial crunch but nobody suspected that the man will kill her. We are shocked," said Parvati, a neighbour.

Tengnoupal, Jan 21: A woman IPS officer has alleged that a rifleman of Assam Rifles physically assaulted and molested her at a check post near Moreh town in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, police said on Tuesday.

Based on a written complaint of the IPS officer, an FIR has been registered against rifleman P K Pandey and a summon has been issued to him to appear before the concerned police station, the police said.

Manipur DGP L M Khaute told reporters on Monday, "We have made contacts with the Assam Rifles authorities. A complaint has been lodged by the officer." In her complaint, the IPS officer said that on reaching Khudengtabi check post on Sunday afternoon one of her escorts, who was not in uniform, told the frisking party of Assam Rifles to register their entry.

Despite showing their identity cards, the rifleman allegedly detained them, she said.

"We offered to search ourselves and the vehicle, but he was not interested", she said.

The rifleman began hitting the official vehicle and "misbehaved, humiliated, harassed and assaulted me and my escort personnel," she alleged.

The IPS officer also alleged that the rifleman molested her and when her escorts tried to intervene, he thrashed them.

She further accused the rifleman of making "sexually coloured" remarks against her, using abusive language and even tried to snatch her phone when she tried to call her senior officers.

The issue was brought under control after the matter was reported to the Brigadier of 26th Assam Rifles and the Major of the D-company of 12th AR, police said.
